I did not at all enjoy Jane Eyre (and I love the book!). It's not a musical, but it is playing in the West End. I thought it was primarily badly directed. The director's vision/message they were trying to get across was not communicated well. They were clearly trying to say something about sexuality, possibly sexual repression. But what they were saying about that? No idea. And yet, they beat us over the head with whatever it is they were trying to say. The beat us with a hammer to try to make us understand. They made some very confusing, and ultimately very poor, choices. And Jane Eyre's voice was incredibly annoying. She sounded like she had some sort of impediment and/or mental problem.
The worst peice of "theatre" I have ever seen (this is including plays put on by small children) was in England, but not the West End. Currently, in Oxford, there is an outdoor production of the Merchant of Venice being put on by the Creation Theatre Company. Everyone involved in that should be shot. It would be doing them service, not to mention the rest of humanity.

"I mean, how many of us could honestly say that at one time or another he hasn't set fire to some great public building?"
