Which shows do you think have or had the worst choreography? Some recent shows I can think of:
-Dance of the Vampires
-Jekyll and Hyde (that Murder, Murder number alone is probably the worst ever!)
-Nick and Nora
-Steel Pier
-Big
and Sorry,- Wicked...

Ooh, looks like Mr. Cilento is not doing so well!
I wasn't crazy about the dancing in Wicked either. Kind of corny.

Did you see that ribbon spinning bit in Wicked- yikes! It was so cheesy and amatuer gymnastic routine-like.

Don't forget Cilento's appalling work on AIDA and HOW TO SUCCEED as well.
Yeah..and when they so 'Wizomania' those big Humpty-Dumpty things jumping around and dancing...just a little too extreme for me, lol.

I liked the subtle choreography in AIDA, like in The Dance of the Robes, and the death of Nbeka. But that's just me.

Yes, the Humpty Dumpty heads in Wicked was ridiculous too. Why did they need to pop up and down??? A little phallic if you ask me...The flying monkey "dance" at the opening was odd as well.

I also enjoyed AIDA's choreography. Dance of the Robes, Another Pyramid, and Like Father, Like Son were cool. I saw it on tour (small stage) so it was cut down also.

Yes i also saw the tour with Simone which completely blew me away! I heard from people who saw both broadway and the tour that the tour was soooo much better. I was in awe for 2 and a half hours! Simone was awe-inspiring, and the Amneris was so kick-@ss! Updated On: 10/23/03 at 03:46 PM
I loved the one to 'Like Father Like Son.' I can barely remember it b/c I saw it 2 years ago, but I do remember I was blown away by it.
i too preferred the tour staging and even design coordination, but Headley is heads over Simone (who i also enjoyed). Was the Amneris you saw Lisa Brescia? she's great in everything i've seen her do. And the choreography of the show never bugged me, nor did TOMMY's.
i really enjoyed "Mushnik and Son" in Marshall's work in LSOH, otherwise it was pretty generic. But she is very good: KISS ME KATE, CARNIVAL, and HOUSE OF FLOWERS stand out for me.

No, Amneris was Kelly Fornier, god she was so awesome. She belted the crap outta "Every Story" and "Strongest Suit." woo!
Dance of the Vampires didn't have bad choregraphy!

I saw the tour with Paulette Ivory and Jeremy Kushnier (he was on vacation...Ryan Link was in). Also, Mickey Dolenz was Zoser and Lisa Brescia as Amneris.
I also absolutely loved everything about Aida. I saw it with Simone and Adam Pascal and also with a stand in for Simone (I don't remember her name but she was fabulous).
I 2nd the Jeckyl and Hyde choreography. I mentioned the murder, murder number in another post last night.

I find the J&H Murder, Murder number appalling on most levels.
I'm not crazy about the Wicked or AIDA choreography, but I did like Cilento's work in How to Succeed. I think the Brotherhood of Man number, for example, was just terrific. I also liked his choreography for Golden Boy at Encores.
the ONLY good dance number in vampires was that opening scene where they attack sarah and her friends...the rest was a carbon copy of AIDA/THRILLER Video

Into the Woods revival...Seriously...I could have done that and I have no dance experience.

When I saw AIDA on Broadway and on tour, Another Pyramid and Like Father Like Son were such duds that they stopped the show in the wrong way. (The guys sitting behind me asked during one of the songs "when did this become a Janet Jackson video?"). I thought Crowley's designs were acceptable on tour but just dazzling on Broadway. I thought Paulette Ivory was a very weak Aida and not in Headley's league at all. I like Kushnier but thought he was miscast. Brescia was a great Amneris. I loved Sherie Rene Scott on Broadway and Brescia did something totally different in the role and was as effective. Cilento's Brohtherhood of Man doesn't hold a candle to what Fosse did with the number. Fosse had confidence in his work and realized the number didn't need a lot of busyness to make it a showstopper. Maybe that number wasn't Cilento's fault. I thought that whole production got nearly everything wrong.
while i liked dotv, i must admit, the choreography was bad. the first number in which vampires crawled down from the walls and did all sorts of neat physical movements was incredibly cool, but the reast just looked jumbled and unrehearsed. i recall the dancing in the final number (the DANCE of the vampires) to be quite anticlimactic and dull. ill defend the music and book of this flop of a show, but i must agree with the comments on its choreography.
