I'd have to go with Kerry Butler in LSOH, maybe not "worst" but certainly amateur-ish. And I DID see her in "Hairspray" and thought she was fresh and engaging--could not believe she was not nominated.
Lauren Bacall - Waiting in the Wings
Faye Dunaway - Master Class
WHAT? Nancy Opel was GREAT in Fiddler...
Rany Graff - Les Mis
Alfred Molina - yeah, Fiddler
Stephen (?) Henderson (I hear he is supposed to be a good actor) - Dracula
How'd I know some1 would say Idina....?
Eden Espinosa-Brooklyn
I'm surprised no one said Bernadette Peters in Gypsy.
When did Eden Espinosa become a gifted actor?
Well, somparing it to Wicked. Alright, maybe not such a great example.
When did Lauren Bacall become a gifted actor? Being famous - even legendary - does not necessarily make you gifted.
Bernadette's performance in Gypsy was nothing short of genius. However, I'm not too fond of her in ITW.
Oooo Elphie. No you di-n't!!
Broadwaybelter- Can you please explain why you thought Harriet Harris was not good in Millie? I saw her twice (and Delta Burke twice, and Bea Lillie in the movie) and thought she was excellent.
In terms of a bad performance from a gifted performer. It is not Broadway but I thought Bette Midler's Kiss My Brass was not very good. It seemed slapped together. Bette was trying but was out of breath quite a bit. I understand she is 59 years old, 58 at the time I saw KMB, but she should realize she doesn't need a big show. All she needs is a stool and a microphone.
Lauren Bacall received quite good reviews for both Applause and Woman of the Year. Though she's not a singer, she managed to snag Tonys for both shows. She also received a Golden Globe, SAG Award, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Film Critics Association, National Achievement Award from the National Board of Review, three Emmy nominations and an Oscar nomination, so I felt she qualified for the category.
Bernadette's singing in ITW was amazing, but her acting didn't do anything for me.
Wow. I think ITW was actually Bernadette's best work. A distinct performance that displayed a huge range of emotion and development as well as crackerjack comedic skill that has yet to be beaten in that role.
Hmm. i thought kerry butler was great.
I have to agree with whoever said Matthew Broderick in The Music Man. It was almost painful.
I liked Bernadette. In everything.
Definitely Matthew in Music Man.
Aidan Quinn in Streetcar
Chita Rivera in Merlin
George C. Scott in Sly Fox
Yes, I said Eartha Kitt in NINE instead of John Stamos because, if you payed attention to the question, it said "gifted actor." I don't think anyone on here would consider John Stamos a gifted actor.
i saw BACALL in WAITING IN THE WINGS, and was so mesmerized just seeing her in person that i enjoyed her performance and didn't mind that she wasn't great. the main problem was her timing ... it was rumored she was being fed the lines from offstage.
i can't vouch for JUDI DENCH as SALLY in CABARET, having not seen or heard it. but i have the 1999 studio recording of CABARET in which she plays FRAULEIN SCHNEIDER. i think she's wonderful, and it's great fun hearing her do it.
When I saw Bacall in Waiting in the Wings, she had trouble with many lines, timing, and due to her insisting on a private wardrobe designer, seemed completely out of place. The rest of the cast was flawless.
yes, matt, wasn't ROSEMARY HARRIS wonderful?! so regal! and i wondered why BACALL's outfit was so awful

Oh, sorry-- I was just listing people that SUCKED in general
Lucifer, no one you listed is a gifted actor, except for maybe Taye Diggs and Kerry Butler. And how can you say Drew Lachey's worst performance is in RENT? What else have you seen him in on stage? I think he's quite good - better than almost every other Mark I have seen - and I've seen them all. And Max von Essen? He was fantastic in DOTV, it was the writing that was questionable.
