re: Worst Possible Casting Ideas

I actually loved Harvey Fierstein as Tevye. he's not an amazing singer (obviously), but I think he's a great actor.

also, Patti auditioned (or wanted to audition) to be the replacement Dot.

re: Worst Possible Casting Ideas

From the Papermill: Don Stephenson as John Adams, Tovah Feldshuh as Dolly Levi, Christine Ebersole as Mame (seemed like a good idea, but no).

From Broadway: Richard Kind as Andre in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Almost ruined a perfectly fine show. Thank goodness I'd already seen it with Greg Jbarra as Andre.

Can we just consider all the real casting examples as done? Yes, LuPone in "Gypsy"--hysterical!

Moving on . . .

"West Side Story: Matt Cavenaugh as Tony"

Whew! I thought I was the only one who thought he sucked.

How about Beyonce in anything? Sorry, but I don't think she can do anything moan and groan when she "sings". Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams are so much more talented, IMHO.

Lauren Graham as Adelaide. Yowza!

Bad casting I'd pay to see: Liza as Elphaba and Bernadette as Glinda in Wicked: The Golden Years.

Allison Janney in anything she actually has to sing in.

re: Worst Possible Casting Ideas

"Christine Ebersole as Mame (seemed like a good idea, but no)."

No actually it didn't. When I first heard the news, I thought somebody had it wrong and CE was cast as Vera. Ebersole is not a very warm actress and casting her in Mame made that obvious.
