My worse stage door experience was at SLY FOX. Everyone was so unfriendly and rude and some of the performers coughcoughBobDishycoughcough completely ignored me when I asked for an autograph and shot out a nasty look and mumbled some ignorant words. It wasnt like there was a mob at the stage door- 3 people!! He couldnt take 30 seconds out of his day to greet 3 people. Bastard.
You know what I hate- Is when parents shove their little kids infront of you. Its like dude, I was here first. And then they tell the cast members how its their kids birthday or something, uggh its so annoying. I really hate little kids sometimes.
When I saw 'Cat...Tin Roof', it was just me and my girlfriend waiting. While Jason Patric, Kelly McAndrew, and Margo Martindale were very friendly, Ned Beatty blatantly ignored us. There were only TWO people waiting.
Other than that, I have never had a bad stage door experience.

I was there on April 15. We waited for an hour before we decided to go home. Someone said Idina was sick and had left and Kristin wasn't coming out. Maybe she did after we left, but I dunno.

Glad to hear that Jason Patric was friendly. He has a rep, i hear, for being testy with castmates. At least the public is well-treated! :o)

All I can think of is Margo Channing's line:
"They're nobody's fans...they never even see a play...they're never indoors long enough."
My worst stage door experience is when the door to the Marquis nearly took my head off. I don't know where these stagedoors get off thinking they can just swing this way or that way without consequence. Needless to say - I never plan on talking to that door again!

Yes, but did it stay still for a photo?
It had to. It was trapped. But I was so peaved I didn't ask for a photo or for it to sign anything. Plus, there were so many other people waiting in front of the door, I didn't want to prevent others from sharing the same experience.
You know - I've followed that door since it was at the Jane Street - you'd think it would remember where it came from!

Actually Jess, matt and I had a good laugh after she walked away.

"But the rudest and funniest thing ive ever experienced was having some woman interrupt my conversation with Matt outside Hairspray to essentially 'offer herself' to him. Christina "
So let's get this straight. You have a "friend" in the show and you were annoyed that a fan wanted to have a moment with them when you get to see them all the time. That sounds like you were the rude one.
Worst.
Thread.
Ever.
I was once abused by Carnege Hall security. A friend in a show had put me on a guest list to go backstage and somehow my name was omitted and CH security was forceful and rude, very RUDE when it was not called for in any way. They are crude apes and I have never gone backstage since. Gives a bad name to a wonderful theater.
Not for anything, and I am not defendind ALL security people at stage doors but they deal with a LOT of crap from people. And believe me, they have also heard every excuse under the sun about why you should be allowed backstage. You can't really fault them for doing their job and sticking to their guns about not letting one up on their "word".
That doesn't mean they have to be "rude" - but I fear sometimes someone doing their job correctly might appear to some as rude.

I still can't get over the fact that there are barricades for autograph seekers at Wicked. I have seen the ladies come out of there a few times. Always through the same door and with just a few people waiting for something to be signed or a picture. I have even seen Christian walk to 8th avenue with a back pack and chat and talk to people on the street as she is walking. When did the barricade thing start happening? Jack42...
Re-read what Mistress wrote. This person sauntered up and "offered themselves" to Matt...not just for an autograph...

Hey, I love Matts fans, thats why im his webmaster. I didnt do anything to stop her from talking to him. We were mid conversation and she was apparently 'in the mood'. If you think offering yourself to someone you only just saw perform and have spoken to for five minutes is normal behavior, well hey, whatever floats your boat babe. It wouldnt have been quite as funny if it had been a young girl but no, this was a woman well in her thirties.

A fan offered herself to someone. That's unheard of!
You love his fans and that's why you are his webmaster? I thought you were his webmaster because you were a huge fan. Isn't that what all your posts are about here?
Sounds more like jealousy. I don't see how the fans innuendo would be any worse than comments you've made on this site.
And Beacon - I wasn't misunderstanding Mistress's post. I just found it "funny"

thats the thing, it wasnt an innuendo, and it wasnt joking like how i post on this site. im sorry if you dont see the humor in it. me, matt and the group I was with all thought it was amusing.
And I do love matt, but the sites intent was to bring him closer to his fans which is why he has 'thoughts' and fanmail and a message board and chat room and so on.
But he isnt all ive posted about, this month alone ive posted about Assassins and
MY ART SHOW, which is TOMORROW, you should come. Its on 34 Stuyvesant street in Manhattan from 5-8.

I hate little kids too!!! The matinee of "Hairspray" I went to was INSANE! I was waiting a little past the barricades cause there were SO many people. Little kids kept pushing their way in front of me and shoving their programs so I didn't get Harvey's signature. I understand though, because he's a big guy and he needs his rest and his food after a demanding show esp. wearing those boobs for 3 hrs.
I'd have to say Wonderful Town was the sweetest cast ever. Raymillond Mcleod (Wreck) was so nice and talked with me for a few. Nancy Anderson was really nice, and Donna was just...awwww. I love her. She took a picture with me and signed and everything and wasnt all diva like at all.

My worst stage door experience was probably when I saw Into the Woods in May 2002 and my mom and I decided to wait before the show, since we had to hurry to an audition immediately after the matinee. I had auditioned for the show in the fall of the previous years and was seen for one of the roles a few times.. so I was talking to the girl who played the part I was up for and she was SO friendly, and so we chatted until pretty much a half hour before the show, then I decided to wait for Vanessa Williams. I was the only one waiting at the door, besides my mom, and at 1:45 pm her car pulls up and she storms out of it and I was like "Oh, she's probably late, I won't ask her for an autograph," so I turned away from the stage door to leave and she looks down at me and made some comment about how I was in her way, and she wasn't "doing the autograph thing" until after the night show, and she mumbled something about having a show, and gave me this really dirty look before pushing through the stage door. Ummm, I was just trying to get out of your way! lol..
When I saw Beauty and the Beast this March, I waited at the stage door for someone in the Ensemble who's good friends with a girl in my dance class, who said I should stop by and say hi after the show. Big mistake!!! Because Christy Romano was Belle, there were several thousand kids and their parents waiting at the barricades. Climbing on them. etc. I waited off to the side, where the Ensemble people were walking out.. but was still mauled by this crazy mom who was trying to get a picture of Christy. This woman climbed over the barricade that was on the side and walked right up to the stage door, and knelt down with her camera ready for when Christy walked out. This big security guy had to tell her three or four times to move and she was like "I'm not in anyone's way" and he was like "Yes you are, most of the cast uses this walkway" and she would NOT move until he like, had to physically move her haha. Then these kids who had been climbing the barricades, when Christy walked out, they all JUMPED on it and it toppled over down the center walkway where she walked out. I literally just wanted to stand there and SCREAM lol. So annoying!!!
And like Craig, I've almost been mutilated by the Marquis stage door as well. :-p Not a good time!!
ive never ahd a bad stage door experience except for lil shop was FREEZING
the first time i saw wicked kristin idina joel michelle chirstoper all came out
the second time only kristin and idina.

I can attest to this. While I know some who are very sweet and pleasant and everyone loves (ie: My favorite hot man at the Shubert lol), I have also met a few who leave a lot to be desired. TheaterBaby -- I'm looking at you here, you KNOW I mean the Thorn
I completely agree that sometimes doing their job, stage door security personel can come off as rude. Know that it's not intended that way (aside from the Thorn and the guy at the Ambassador -- I cannot recall ONE time he's ever been nice to me), and you shouldn't take it personally. Remember they deal with insane fans, autograph hounds, screaming teenagers (ie: when Backstreet Billy was in Chicago lol).... they see and deal with it all, and it ain't easy.
So be nice
