Worst Tony Opening Ever!

I was very dissapointed in the Opening of the Tony Awards... it was much better in years past...

Was Harry sick? He didn't sound his best...

re: Worst Tony Opening Ever!

It was horrible! I really didn't like it. I loved last year, when they performed quick snippets.

re: Worst Tony Opening Ever!

I don't know if he's sick, but he certainly sounded tired.

re: Worst Tony Opening Ever!

OK...I'm glad to know it wasn't just me that thought something was off. I mean, I'm not a huge fan, but I *did* see PJGame and he sounds MUCH better than he did tonight. I'm going with the "under the weather" theory.

re: Worst Tony Opening Ever!

I kept hoping they'd take the camera off of Harry and allow us to watch the video's of past Tony Acceptances that were playing in the background.

re: Worst Tony Opening Ever!

I've only seen him here and there, but he did look and sound sick or something.

re: Worst Tony Opening Ever!

The whole night, every time they show him, he doesn't look happy or excited or anything... some thing is up with Harry!

re: Worst Tony Opening Ever!

It was just blah...and not very great or anything.

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

Hey it would be great if you could post spoiler!! The Tony Awards for me hasn't even started yet!! SHEESH!! I mean c'mon, you think you should learn already.

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

oh for crying out loud...don't come to a public message board and bitch about spoilers. If I lived on the west coast, I wouldn't be anywhere near my computer right now.

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

Well then you should know that there are other people living in other parts of the world. The whole damn universe does not revolve around you. And don't even try to start a fight with me, I said nothing wrong to you.

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

sorry, but the whole damn universe doesn't revolve around people who have to watch stuff on tape either! As I said before, don't come to a PUBLIC message board and expect not to find out about the awards.

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

But...why did you click on the thread that had this title?

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

They should have opened with "I don't wanna show off."

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

It's almost offensive that show people can't put on a decent opener! And what was up with Harry's shoulder thing?
But the work waits! I'm alive at last, and I'm full of joy!!!

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

I hate his voice. What a poor opening.

BRING BACK HUGH!

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

I thought they were opening the show with Michael J. Fox the way he was shaking around out there. Terrible.

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

Terrible I agree, boring too
Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky. With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high! Blood-red were the spurs i' the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat, when they shot him down on the highway, down like a dog on the highway, and he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat... re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

It was like. . .let's just get Harry, the newest Broadway baby cross-over sensation, get him to sing some tired old show songs and then raise up everyone they're going to see throughout the night...and save on a big opening.

It was totally lame.

I wanted something HUGE. and all i got was crap. lol
whatever and ever amen - ben folds five

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

I saw Pajama Game today and talked to Peter Benson! Harry is highly medicated. He got VERY hurt yesterday. He is doing the best he can. Don't fault him for that. I mean his only other option would be to cancel and I KNOW too many people would be disappointed for that!! Don't fault him for things you don't know about!
What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!

I won't even begin to tell you how inappropriate that remark was. You probably posted it just to see a reaction. How immature.

Now that someone has mentioned what the problem was, I can see it. He was slurring a tiny bit when he was singing the second time.

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

I agree the beginning was a little lack-lustre, not because of Connick himself but the whole jist of it, really didn't demostrate the immediate "wow" and "pizzazz" that the Tony's usually have.

re: POST SPOILER PLEASE!!

Personally, I wanted the Man in the Chair (Drowsy) to open the show, then snippets from Tony winning musicals from the past 60 years done on stage. That would have been great...
