Theaterfan, you make a great point; however, that would imply that "Smash" makes ANY kind of sense. It is so out of the realm of realism (even for TV) it drives me nuts.

Wait...so JJ should lose HIS job because his character has no moral fiber?

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I too think that JJ has a great singing voice but his acting is too extreme at times. There is a great difference between stage acting and TV acting and JJ has to learn to modulate for the small screen. Hopefully he will continue to grow and learn those difference. As far as SMASH goes, the writing is just horrible and there isn't much else to say after that.

I too think that Jeremy has a deservedly bright future ahead of him. It would be great if he teams up with Laura Osnes again in future productions.

One thing I can't figure out is how JJ made Clyde Barrow so darn likeable when he actually killed people, and I just want to push Jimmy off of a cliff.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

I haven't watched Smash since the pilot episode.

But I will butt in here anyway and say it's entertaining to me to see people tip-toe their way into discussion on a discussion board, worried about ruffling feathers.

Just post away as if nobody is reading your posts. That's what I do!!

I, too, think he has a bright future ... not because of his talent, though. Definitely because of his looks and probably his agent.

I could probably like the guy if it weren't for his crazy stylized singing. I wince every time he hits one of his scoop poppy head-voice WHAYL notes.

Gloom, despair and agony on me.

JJ: WHAYL!!!

& it seems that disconnect would make it nearly impossible to create a character that the audience can empathize with.

Oh absolutely. This is a fact in film history. Think of how some of the great performances would have turned out if:

Anthony Hopkins wasn't really a cannibalistic murderer.
Heath Ledgers wasn't really a self mutilated monster.
William Zabka wasn't really a two time karate champion with no mercy.
Gert Frobe wasn't actually part gold.
Julius Carrey III really able to glow red and knock people out with his freshly kissed converse.
Christian Bale wasn't actually homicidal maniac in a well tailored suit.
Gunnar Hansen didn't actually run around with a mask made of human flesh killing people with a chainsaw.
Robert Englund didn't actually have knives for fingers.
Bela Lugosi couldn't actually turn into a bat.
Javioer Bardem didn't actually kill people with a terrible haircut.
David Prowse and James Earl Jones didn't actually merge together to become an intergalactic warlord.
Robert Patrick couldn't actually turn into silver liquid metal.
Kevin Spacey didn't actually keep obnoxious actresses head's in a box.

All of these modern day mutants and monsters deserve to be lauded because if they were just regular human beings with great acting skills then it'd be impossible to create a such interesting characters.

Imagine if they tried to perfect the drug addicted kid from the wrong side of the tracks that is trying desperately to escape his past and embrace the success and future that he doesn't think he deserves! No one has ever pulled that off. Ever. Not even Pony Boy!

Gert Frobe wasn't actually part gold.

Auric Goldfinger didn't actually have goldfingers. Unless you mean Bronzefinger from Get Smart who did actually have a bronze finger IIRC.

Javier Bardem didn't actually kill people with a terrible haircut.

Though it wasn't particularly flattering, his haircut wasn't actually the lethal weapon.

I wouldn't be surprised if Julian Sands amputated the limbs of his lover, though.

You're absolutely right. I caught that after I posted and since the stellar software of the message boards here doesn't allow me to edit for some explicable reason I couldn't change it.

I got Goldfinger and Bronzefinger confused.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. For whatever reason myself and many other posters don't have the edit message line. I had it for many years and one day it went away and never came back.

Goldfinger stole it
