Posted: 4/20/07 at 10:15pmPatti would make a great "The Adult Women" in Spring Awakening as well. Suggesting Matron isn't as fargone as suggesting that Patti play Madame Morrible in Wicked. That'll be the day that the ghost of Judy Garland would go out to the big TV in Times Square and warn everyone to drive carefully because hell has just frozen over. I would love to see her take the role of Joanne in Company or Madame Giry in Phantom of the Opera, but that'd be as likely as a revival of The Times They Are A-Changin. And to avoid starting another thread on this, with the new "revival" of Les Mis, why wasn't Patti offered the role of Fantine in the OBC? Surely an Olivier Award winner for the role would have looked good, not to mention a Tony winner for her amazing portrayal of Eva Peron?

She was, she refused because her experience in London was so fantastic that she didn't want to jeopardize that great experience.
I say thank god, because she wouldn't have done Anything Goes had she done Les Miserables on Broadway.

She could have taken her London performance to Broadway, but Patti chose NOT to, and eventually instead got to do ANYTHING GOES.

Lupone has no problem tackling a supporting role for a high profile, limited engagement - or when creating a role as she did in Les Miserables, but she will never ever take a supporting role in a production that has been running forever and which has seen the likes of D list celebrities.
Chicago has become The Love Boat and Fantasy Island of Broadway - where old stars and newer bottom feeders go and pretend to dance and sing on The Great White Way.
And as others have said, had she accepted the Broadway version of Les Miserables, she wouldn't have been available for her amazing performance in Anything Goes, a role she was born to play. One of the highlights of my theatre going experiences.

I doubt she would ever do Mama Morton.
BUT
I could see her doing Roxie (and no she's really not too old at all!)

- WTF? Are you out of your mind? Since when has Patti EVER been a dancer? And no offense, she is just not in shape.
