Just curious on your opinions, but would the amazingly talented Patti LuPone be good a good Matron in Chicago? She certainly has the attitude to pull it off. More importantly and a possible long shot, but would she take the role? I know she has not a great number of replacing actresses on Broadway (only once for Master Class), but if she was offered the honor of being the last Matron, do you think she'd take it then?
Last Matron?

Not in 100,000 years would she EVER EVER EVER take a role as tiny and undistinguished as the 200th replacement Mama Morton.
NEVER.
I think her ego's too big to accept a supporting role.

She has accepted non-lead roles in the past, but there's no way she'd be the nth replacement in a dusty 10 year old revival. She has WAY too many other career options than that.
^
My thoughts exactly, she'd be good though, not exactly where I'd place her. But it'd never happen anyway, at least not with this revival.
She'd definitely be great for the role, I've always said it. Maybe she can be the last Matron. I don't know if she'll accept that, but closing the show is a pretty big deal - especially for a long running show.
And if her ego doesn't like taking supporting roles, why did she play Yvonne in SUNDAY - which is a MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller role than Cerveris & Audra had.

Eh, she'd never do it, but I would die if I could hear her singing "Class."
^ Me too! And I think her ...GOOD TO MAMA would be so raunchy!
One can dream, ljay.

her rendition of GOOD TO MAMA would probably bring the show to a halt!

Wasn't that because there really is no role for her in SITPWG and the three of them (LuPone, Cerveris, and Audra) had a commitment with Ravinia to stay together?

I mean, she played The Old Woman in Candide at Lincoln Center, but she stole the show with that one...she was a riot.
I don't think her not wanting would have so much to do with role size as much as being "the nth replacement in a dusty 10 year old revival," as Margo said.

Yeah, I agree. Patti being in Chicago would probably only happen if she was asked to close out the show, which is a small possibility if then. Like ljay889 said, closing out a show like that is a big deal. And if Patti doesn't do it before the show closes, maybe with fingers crossed she could play her at the benefit concert that's bound to happen!
Miss Patti in a supporting role like that? THAT is about as likely as Miss P. singing "With One Look" with the actress known as Cruella De Ville. Not going to happen!.. from Roman in Austin, Texas... the official Patti LuPone FANatic
But if they offered her Billy Flynn...
You know I would love to see her take on the role of "Christine" in Phantom.
i think she would be amazing!
I thought u actully meant a matron in the city of Chicago...
..ok i don't rlly know the show very well.
I would like to see her play the role of "Christine" in the Stephen King novel.
Can you imagine all that belty goodness wrapped up into a hood? I think this time Debbie Allen should direct and choreograph. I'm thinking something a la Starlight Express. Although Patti would be the only one on wheels.
Miss Patti in a supporting role like that?
- Um. What do you mean LIKE THAT? What exactly is wrong with THAT role? THAT role has been a Tony nominated role. Mama gets two killer songs, and THAT role can easily steal the show.
She sure as hell aint going to play Roxie or Velma anytime soon.
She's busy. She's the matinee Kira in XANADU.
