I would give anything in the world for that!!!! It could happen all you need is a very rich gay man who wants it to happen. As great as Bette was I wish Liza did the TV movie that would have been amazing.

and who ever said they "loved liza as much as the next homosexual" but doesn't want to see her play Rose. All i can say you don't love her as much as the next homosexual...

I would have loved seeing Liza in "Gypsy" but not as Rose but as Louise as was mentioned in I believe "Sondheim and Company". Apparantly at one time CBS considered a tv special of the show in the mid sixties with Garland as Rose and Liza as Gypsy. Now that would have been perfect casting. Neither the real Lee nor Minnelli were particularly stunning physically yet both possessed the ability to appear so. Liza's transformation from young Louise to budding stripper would have been most interesting. And Garland as Rose...musical theater heaven. Today I have as much interest in seeing Minnelli play Rose as I would Streisand. Both are just too old. Why Rose is usually played by women over forty has always perplexed me. Age wise, Rose has 2 young daughters as the show opens and realistically could have still been in her late twenties/early thirties instead of fifty (which Merman was when the show opened). The thing I loved about the ageless Peters in the role was after seeing Ann Sothern, Angela Lansbury and Tyne Daley previously...was that Peters was the first really flirtatious Rose I had ever seen, using her sexuality to dominate the world. For the first time I actually believed why Herbie might have stuck around all those years. Unfortunately for me Liza no longer possesses these qualities and her voice is just too tired for the role.

I have been waiting my entire life for this to happen. Liza certainly wouldn't have to do much emotional study for the role--life has done to her pretty much what it did to Rose and then some (except that she was a star for awhile, and Rose wasn't.) And, just like Rose, she takes the punches and keeps coming. She IS Rose. Unfortunately, it'll be at least another 15 years before GYPSY returns (after Peters' version) and she'll be much too old for it by then. Maybe in stock or something.

By the way, I thank everyone who has posted so far on this thread for not taking cheap personal shots at Liza. If anyone else was thinking of it--YOU WILL ANSWER TO ME.

Margo has the right idea - a one-night concert. They could sell tickets for $1,000.00 or more!

Despite all of her life problems, ahe is an electrifying performer. I'd love to see her do this. Tyne Daly was a pretty great Rose, even though her vocal chops left a lot to be desired. I think she could bring a whole new dimension to this character.

I would love to see her in this! My friend and I have been debating for years over whether or not she would be good in it. She disagrees with me. I think liza would be fabulous!

I think she'd be great as Mama Rose...Ethel and Tyne and Angela weren't eactly ingenues either and Bernadette just LOOKS young, but she isn't. Nor do Tyne and Angela have particularly strong voices. Liza has the personality and following to make almost anything a success. I can't wait to see her in something!

God yes, but only for the train wreck that would be on the stage nightly.

My favorite performer in my favorite show...I would totally go. Too bad this will probably never happen, what with Gypsy just closing last year and all. Boo.

Not today, Geraldine.

Well, that's part of the fun, Recycled. I had a friend who met her briefly recently and if she's half as good as his impression of her, I'm there!

Who wouldn't want to go see Liza in anything! I would have loved to have seen Ethel Merman or Mary Martin in something, sadly, they passed on before I could. But Liza would be perfect for the role. I mean Merman was in her 50's/almost 60s when she did the part so why not Liza?

Because Liza doesn't have it in her anymore to do it. Her voice is unreliable at best. The only thing she can do is play Liza. Submerging herself in a role is no longer an option.

I wouldn't pay 2 cents to see her on stage (been there, done that), but I'd like to see her do the role. In a film, where there is some control, and a chance to get the vocals right.

And enjoy the beauty - all the joy and beauty - that a Merry Christmas can bring to you!

It really is amazing how much of her life and career has followed Judy's.

Yeah, Merman certainly "submerged herself in the role." Come on, she never played anyone except Merman.
