I'm going to be in NY next weekend (May 18-20) and really want to see Grey Gardens. I'm also interested in Frost/Nixon and Company. (I already have tickets to Curtains for Saturday night.) Normally, I would line up all tickets in advance but a friend gave me a gift certificate to TKTS so I know that I need to leave at least one spot open. Since these shows (unfortunately) seem to be regulars on the board at TKTS, would you just take your chances and wait on tickets? As additional information, I'm not likely to be back in town before the fall at the earliest. Thanks for the advice

I think you'll be ok. Both have been on the board every time I've gone by recently.

Even up to very close to curtain time.

The way I do it is line up the shows I really want to see in advance. I leave a day open to see what I can get at TKTS. I usually pick two or three shows so that I won't be disappointed if I don't get tickets for a certain show. But get there early to make sure you get what you want.

Thanks for the info -- I was thinking along these lines but wanted to see if I was totally off.

I can definitley sympathize, I'm a freak about getting tickets in advance but decided to leave time for TKTS on my first visit to NYC.
I would say go for it because the chances of GG being on the board are very likely and since your trip's within the month, you'll probably get about the same quality of seat whether you buy for 100 now or for 60 in New York. Plus, you might as well use the gift certificate.

Judy, Liza, Barbara, Bette, these are names I shant forget.

On my last trip to NYC I got great seat for "Avenue Q," "Company," and "A Chorus Line" at TKTS. And I got great deals on "Grey Gardens" and "Spring Awakening" at BroadwayBox. Unless you have to see something like "Wicked" or "Jersey Boys," never pay full price for any show!

Maybe I have just been exceedingly lucky, but I have never had an issue getting tickets to what I want to see at TKTS (or maybe I am just choosing shows that are packing 'em in). I saw GG, Company, and Talk Radio a few weeks ago (all tickets from TKTS) and all the seats were excellent (and I'm very peculiar about where I sit...I know I can sometimes aggitate the oft grumpy TKTS folk).

sidneybruhl just said it, but i'll second it...check broadwaybox and Playbill. There are many great discount codes out there...saw PQ for about $30 a ticket (dead center orchestra in the 6th row and purchased three days before the perf). That's a whole different story, but whatever!

Use that gift certificate and enjoy! (Am very jealous you are seeing Curtains. Am so not sure when I am going to get a chance to travel to the city for some theater instead of job interviews!)

I'm glad to hear that you have been having luck with getting good seats at TKTS. I usually do obsessively plan seating ahead of time (and definitely utilize any codes I can find!) but have done okay with TKTS seating when I've done it. Often seats to the side but they've worked out fine. I looked into the current GG code but there were some seat restrictions so there's probably not much difference between seating with the code and seating from TKTS. Right now, I'm just holding my breath that this works out!

Are there any GG seats I should avoid? (i.e., right vs. left side?) Knowing that it will be awhile before I'm back in NY, I fear this is my only chance to see this show.

Avoid balcony seats at GG... you're in another atmosphere in those 2 rows...

I don't know whether anyone else has had this experience (or whether, again, it has been dumb luck), but everytime I go to the South Street Seaport TKTS, I get better seats. I assumed they were both on the same computer network with the same pool of tickets, but that has just been my experience. That, AND it is typically less crowded AND you can get matinee tix the day before the perf!

Agreed on the balcony at the Walter Kerr! Yikes!
