GREY GARDENS is finally closing this coming Sunday July 29 (2007), and not one 'new' thread has been generated with anything.
Wow! This is a reflection of why the show is closing -- interest and buzz was/is limited.
Everyone was totally flipping out when it's closing was announced. Numerous threads were generated with people hoping and demanding that a COMPANY-like filming would happen (for PBS to air), and now...silence.
HAIRPSRAY seems to have stolen it's thunder.
Oh well.

This is tragic.

Posted: 7/23/07 at 2:21pmI guess a taping will not be happening. That's tragic.

I think it is a terrific show that had a very limited appeal.
Just curious why you used the word "FINALLY" in the thread title. It is not as if it is RENT or PHANTOM and been running forever.

So Brody, you expected 50 threads on the same subject?
Really, I don't know what exactly the point of the post is...

It IS sad that it is closing so soon now that it is doing excellent business, and that the damn producers decided not to replace the wonderful Mary Louise Wilson. I listened to the Broadway cast CD yesterday and was once again transported to Grey Gardens. I must say how impressed I am with the singing ability of Erin Davie, Christine Ebersole, and the 75(?) year old Mary Louise Wilson.
Is the show going to London or not?

Apparently, London is still happening.
Would have loved for them to record this. *sigh*

Posted: 7/23/07 at 4:05pmAfter seeing it last week, I'm pissed at myself for not seeing it sooner. I'm absolutely smitten with the show and sad to see it go.

Not sure what you're expecting.
Do you think the fans of the show would want to start a countdown to its closing?
Why would one want to commemorate the closing of an amazing piece of art by noting the final week of performances has begun?
I'll attempt to see the show a final time before closing, in the meantime I'm pooling all my resourses at work to find production companies that specialize in filming live theater.
Maybe if they (the companies) or the producers are tipped off to each other, they'll record closing weekend and then maybe do a "closed" show for closeups for a PBS airing.
So far i've picked up one name:
Beyond Our Reality Productions

"Christopher:
Definitely interested. What day/night would you like to film? And on what format?
Let me know.
Thanks.

"I, unfortunately, am not an affiliate of the show, but just a fan hoping to pool my resources and possibly make a link between production company and producers.
The show is housed at the Walter Kerr theater on 48th St. between Broadway and 8th and produced by Kelly and Lou Gonda.
I hope some sort of arrangement can be made between your company and the Gondas as this is a terribly enthralling show and would be a wonderful addition to both your catalogue and PBS's."

I'm incredibly sad about it. It was my first actual Broadway show (in NYC) and I had such a wonderful time sharing it with my family. . for their first Broadway show as well. I just wish it could run forever with its current cast, because they are lovely.
I'm still crossing my fingers for a super-secret taping that will be released later on PBS or DVD.
I really really want this show to be captured as it is now. As much as it has been billed as Ebersole's show. . it wouldn't be the same with Wilson.
Now I'm depressed LOL.

Posted: 7/23/07 at 5:16pmlogan, did Rosie ever respond to you on her blog?
#18re: Wow! GREY GARDENS is finally closing this weekend!

Not that I saw.
We can take that as a sign that she doesn't want it to be filmed
or
That it already is set to be filmed and she can't release the details.
I'd love to believe the latter, but doubtful.
Thus my feable attempts to hook up the Gondas and B.O.R Productions.
As silly as this may sound, does anyone have contact information for anyone affiliated with the production? I.E. Staunch productions contact information? Or the Gondas' office?

Saw it for the first time Friday nite...I do not understand how this show can close so soon. It is the best show I have seen in sometime...much better than the show that won the Tony (which I saw Saturday)
Just like Company had a brief run, let's just be glad they ran at all. If you were lucky enough to see GG be happy, cherish the memories, and wait a lifetime and maybe we will see another show half as good!

a glimmer of hope:
East of Doheny (GG producers) produced "Night, Mother" which was partially filmed by HBO and quite possibly with the affiliation with Beyond Our Reality Productions.
They may already have a working relationship in place, which would be amazing.

Posted: 7/24/07 at 1:44amI thought that in one thread, someone had posted an e-mail reply from PBS which basically stated that there is not enough time left to record it, but thanking the sender for his/her suggestion.
