Plus the Falsetto's revival, anastasia's coming to the stage next year, In Transit has it's audience, Bandstand's coming, I heard that's pretty chill. I'm gonna be on the edge of my seat come Tony nominations.

I have a feeling that this year will be a year for small shows - with "Dear Evan Hansen" and "Come from Away" being the sleeper hits. "War Paint "will be attract a lot of diva love but not Tony love. "In Transit" will be long forgotten, "Anastasia" will be this year's "Dr Zhivago," "Paramour," its "Holler if Ya Hear Me." While "Bronx Tale" could be another "Jersey Boys," I'm thinking closer to "The Last Ship." What will happen with "Bandstand" and Spongebob, who knows? ...and Natasha et al and the Comet looks to be a wild card hit! Oh, I've forgotten about "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Groundhog Day" and I think others may as well. With so much other interesting stuff going on, it may be hard for what seems to be another version of an old movie they've seen before.

It's an exciting year. I just snagged banquette seats for Great Comet - which will pair nicely with our seats across from the pie counter for Sweeney with Norm Lewis. (Pierogis on Saturday, meat pies on Sunday, musical comedy tonight!) Also, Bette, Patti, Christine. And Pacific Overtures. And Six Degrees with Allison Janney, and Glass Menagerie with Sally Field.

YAY Broadway 2016-2017!

Paramour was already reviewed I doubt it would be considered for this season.

Groundhog Day got raves in London I will be shocked if it did not get good reviews in NYC

MarkBear, our NY visits are somewhat similar. I snagged front Mezz seats for Comet, and also have our seats booked for Meat pies and Norm Lewis in Sweeney Todd, as well as 6 degrees of separation tickets!  Goes without saying we have DEH as well. Others on our list are Doll House Part 2, Ground hog day and Come From Away. Cant wait should be awesome!

I was wondering aboutthe Anastasia=Dr Zhivago analogy...MarkBear, care to explain? People have been clamoring for that movie to be onstage for eons, it's a super popular property, regardless of how the musical is an odd mix of the film and actual history. I seriously doubt it leave us anytime soon merely due to its popularity level. 

As for the other analogies? Some shows I'm still not familiar enough with to say, but...I may have to agree with In Transit. I don't think it'll last, but if I'm proven wrong, so be it. For whatever reason, I feel like it's only cashing in on the passing fad of acapella. Don't get me wrong, I like acapella in general VERY much, I did choir for years and much of it was acapella and it's has its place in the music world...just not in this PART of the music world. I personally believe it belongs in a choral/recording/concert setting, not on Broadway for a musical. I applaud the attempt, but there's something about having an orchestra/band that adds to the storytelling that much of the populace likes a lot even if they aren't aware of it. Its like they're trying to take something that works in those aforementioned settings and trying to fit a square into a circle. Out of the box is to be lauded, but sometimes there's a such thing as TOO far and it just doesn't work. Again, only my opinion. Carry on.

While it will have been around for a year once we hit June, Paramour opened after the 2016 Tony cut-off, so technically it is eligible for and considered in the 2017 Tonys. Now, if it will be nominated is a completely other story...

I suspect that many on this board were at an age to have enjoyed Anastasia when the animated feature came out. At the time (late 80s?) I was about 30 and had no desire to see a non-Disney cartoon. So, I have no nostalgia or actual knowledge of the feature at all - and readily admit that I may be TOTALLY off-base. To my eyes, they were both Russia-based, ballad-heavy shows (again totally my guess) that I've had no inclination whatsoever to see. 

I may have been off-base. It may be this year's Tuck Everlasting.

...or it may be fantastic and a big fat hit. Which would be great.

Thank you. That was  my recollection as well. Both shows opened at the VERY start of the season with no real expectation for Tony love. (especially once Holler opened)

To be frank, there's a lot less competition in the West End these days for a non-jukebox offering and good reviews do not necessarily a hit make.

But I hope it's a hit. Tim Minchin is an interesting guy.

the movie came out in 1997 so if seems safe to say you literally have no clue what you're talking about

please try and come up with a better comparison to Anastasia please. Tuck Everlasting was Boring with a capital B, with the only thing semi-memorable thing being its set design and the ballet at the end of the show.......... Anastasia is ten-fold better than anything the music/lyric/book team of TE could ever spit out. end. of.

Well, I said that the animated feature barely entered my consciousness and I had no desire to see it. Off by a decade? Believe me, it happens. 

I readily concede that I don't know anything about the show except that I've had no reason to care about it. How much of the audience feels the same will be known in a few months. As I said, I hope it's a great show and finds a big audience. That would be nice. 

When I'm making guesses for the sake of conversation and spouting opinion, I readily admit it. As you'll notice I've done above.
