Sketcy details from the clearly frustrated House Manager....

None of the automated technical elements were working. Largely disappointed crowd outside the Hayes.

You could tell the true theater junkies...they were the ones saying "wow, these tickets are collectors items now!"

Bummer.

The refunds line formed right as I left. I didn't want to stick around to see the clearly angry mob.

The mob wasn't really that angry. The box office was very nice about giving new tickets to everyone, and Mary Testa, Jackie Hoffman, and Douglas Carter Beane all came out to apologize and talk with people. They stayed for a little while and told people that they hoped they would come back in the future. It was fine.

It didn't sound like the show had a lot of "technical elements" to begin with. Maybe the disco balls were acting up.

Bjh - Nice to know that they came out to talk to the crowd. I know I'll certainly be back next week (though it looks like I'll be paying slightly more, since its not up on TDF...) Oh, well....sitting on stage is always interesting.

Actually, there's an elevator that is used often, along with a reflecting mirror that goes up/done and rotates..

During the portion when they are fixing the Xanadu, she dropped the "Screw gun" and the front went flying into the 4th or so row on house left. She picked it up, gave a huge smile, and the audience went wild.

at the dress rehearsal on tuesday night, i know they were having mic problems too.. so maybe that was part of the reason too?

Yup- I was there this afternoon. As some of you know - I am from Boston- I came all the way for this XANADU and they cancelled it after 2:45 . They made announcement first, that they were having technical problems with the automation , but I have noticed James Carpinello was leaving at around 2;47 (very unoticeable ) while I was waiting on the line, yup before the announcement ( and I was thinking, hey its that James , so why is he leaving?? then after few minutes. They made the announcement.. yes! the crowd was upset !! bec. I was there. We left right away after 3:02 , when we knew that show wont start. Its too bad ! I did not stay to see Mary Testa & Douglas Carter Beane.. I will post pictures later--J*

FACTS :

1. There were angry people in the lines at around 2:50 pm. bec. the House Manager ( or whoever he is? )announced first , that there are having problems with the stage bec. per his words..
"THE SHOW IS HIGHLY AUTOMATED" and they will inform us (people on the line) as to when it will get fixed, from my understanding ,that he had insinuated that we have to stick around for few, then after like 2 mins.. They announced on the speaker.. That the show was cancelled. Yes ! I heard it personally , some people were upset! One lady even made a comment .."MAYBE IT WAS A DUD, ANYWAY !!" Like what I said, I dont know what happened after we left at 3:05, if those cast members went out and talked to the crowd, that might change the whole vibe of the angry mob outside the Helen Hayes.

2. The same manager made an announcement that all TDF & Telecharge ticket will be automatically refunded and does not need to go to the box office, only people who bought their tixs to the box office can get a refund at the box office that instant.. so that's why we left.

Will I see the show again? Actually I was kinda more excited now than ever. I even wear my "electric blue" tank top for the show.. (the color of the logo )

It sucks but I will get over it =)

I just called Telecharge for a ticket refund.. I was told that if I wanted a total refund
I have to mail back my ticket with a note saying that it was a cancelled performance
(note : since my ticket was mailed to me..) A full refund to " (including processing fee:

I thought the House Manager said yesterday while we were on line to get in..that for those People who bought their tickets thru Telecharge & TDF- you will be AUTOMATICALLY refunded per his words ... Can someone tell me as to why I have to mail my ticket back? (not that i wanted to keep it for souvenir) this is more aggravating than ever ! Correct me if I am wrong- so If I dont mail my ticket back to them -- I wont get a refund? or I will only get a refund after they get my ticket back and process it ? I hate to make these assumptions, but I am getting a little upset with these "XANADU" show.. Should they make it a little easier for those people who came to see it for nothing ?

Xanadu .... seriously ....(for nothing )

In all fairness, you can be frustrated they cancelled a performance, but all other frustrations you have are with telecharge - not the production.
