Kind of an awkward performance, but still fun. I wish they did a different song though.

Awkward indeed.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I think it needs to be mentioned that this was on an early AM news show after all. VERY early in the morning.

Well, apparently I can dream big and be in a Bedding Experts commercial.

...But not watch the video.

You know_ I just realized that song was hard to appreciate on TV. I think Jackson & Butler sang that song in a morning show in NYC ( I will look for the clip) and everyone here had the same reaction- awkward.

Its good- to see it in the context of the Restoration of Xanadu with the muses clothed as muses and audience participation. That song JUST DONT WORK on TV> Dont know why they keep singing it?

Its kind of sad when you're upstaged by a bedding experts commercial.

I want to be forgiving, but seriously, they really should have just kept it simple. Instead they throw in the kitchen sink.

It is also mixed very, very poorly. Whoever this show's sound mixer was apparently has never had to do so for a musical.

ooooh....not the greatest. Don't judge this cast by this video, though! Having seen the show once in New York and twice now in Chicago, I assure you it is well worth seeing! Elizabeth Stanley, Max Von Essen, and the entire ensemble are both hilarious and extremely talented as live performers. It must've been an early morning for them lol.

Jaystarr, I think you're referring to the OBC's performance on the Regis and Kelly show when they performed All Around the World there. I just rewatched it on youtube, and it seems to be almost the same arrangement, just without EVERYONE in the show (standbys, understudys, ect) like they did in this performance.

I just wished they could've found more colorful outfits. The ensemble just bled into the background. At least when the Broadway cast dressed up for appearances, it looked like someone either dressed them or encouraged them to go crazy choosing clothes.

I thought they did a good job.

I think Max's voice is a bit too legit sounding for these songs to work. He is clearly a great singer, but it seems weird here.

Yeah, those early morning Chicago news performances never come off well. The Xanadu performance looks like a professional Broadway filming compared to many of the train wrecks that often air here.

I love the show, and saw it 3 times on Broadway, but if I hadn't, and saw that... I would be very turned off.

Wow, that was painful...

Max's voice definitely doesn't sound right.

It also doesn't help that Stanley is taller than him in the skates... :-/
