They just performed the Transylvania Mania....what a disappointment. Such cheezy, community theatre level choreography performed by a cast that looked exhausted. I guess you should never judge a musical based on one if its main production numbers, but I personally dont need to see the show after seeing that.
It was actually more fun seeing the Today show anchors dressed and performing as The Munsters.
I only caught "Together Again" and "Roll in the Hay." "Together Again" was okay, nothing spectacular. I thought "Roll in the Hay" was pretty funny.
I like Roll in the Hay. I saw the show and besides "He Was My Boyfriend" it was the piece that stood out. I'm surprised they let such an overtly sexual song onto the family-friendly Today show.
I wasn't a fan. I feel bad - I want to like this show so much!
They have the Transylvania Mania Performance on their website. I really enjoyed it and am excited about this show!
If anyone is interested
okay, I just watched the other two performances, and I think the show looks so fun! Maybe I'm not watching the same thing as everyone else, but it seems just as fun as The Producers. Maybe I just love everything (well, almost everything).
I loved Sutton's performance of this song. And c'mon....who doesn't love a yodeling Tony award winner?
I thought the choreography for "Tran Mania" was superb.
Her choreo for Puttin' on the Ritz is amazing.

Ok. Having looked forward for this for so long, I'm having mixed reactions.
"Roll in the Hay", one of the numbers I was most excited for, was horribly underwhelming. Yodeling aside, I feel that the song does nothing to showcase Sutton's talent. Nor did I think it was very funny, which is also disappointing.
I did enjoy "Together Again." It made me chuckle a little now, so I imagine that it would be even funnier live.
Transylvania Mania is also available, right? When I clicked the link, I couldn't find it. But it could be that I'm just stupid. Either way, I'd appreciate some assistance.
This is not Fossee or Bennett, but it will probably run because let's face it, given the yokels will love it. It's like a London Palladium show starring Tommy Steele (uh, without Tommy...) and they usually did big touristo biz
I liked Transsexual Mania. I mean Transylvania Mania.

You have to click "next" on the today show website to get to more choices.
I thought that it definitely lost something out of the context of the show, but I still liked it. I'm kind of partial though because I like anything Sutton Foster is involved with. "Roll in the Hay" is still my favorite song from the show... I wonder why... lol.

Found it! You're my favorite!
And now that I've seen Translyvania Mania, I can only wish that it were my favorite, too. Don't get me wrong. I liked it. Just not as much as I had hoped I would. Either way, I still want to see it on Broadway.
The videos won't load for me...
Sutton was good but I thought the number was kind of flat. Loses a bit on the Plaza for sure..
I just watched "Transylvania Mania", "Roll in the Hay", and "Together Again". These numbers lose so much of their spark on the Plaza. They have absolutely no room to dance, and the sets aren't there. They do the best they can with what they have.
But good performance or not, you've got to give it up for that cast. After getting up insanely early for the Today show, they had their first two show Wednesday, on Halloween no less. Not to mention all the rehearsals they've been doing since the show is still in previews. I talked to a friend of mine in the cast after the matinee yesterday, and he looked like the walking dead (ba dum bum).

I agree that the Plaza had a major impact on my first impressions of the show, which is why I still want to see it in person on Broadway before I decide that I'm officially disappointed, as everyone else seems to be.
On another note, after dismissing "Roll in the Hay" as sub-par and forgettable, I woke up with it in my head this morning. Looks like it's not as forgettable as I thought it was.

I was disappointed with Sutton's Inga. She wasn't sexy at all; actually, her character came off as a dim-witted, gawky young woman. Part of the problem might be that you can't possibly be sexy on a hayride. Trans. Mania was better, but the song was so pointless. I guess I'm the kind of person who likes a dance song to have at least some meaning.
Allmylife: As someone who has fought the tourist crowds in the summer and around the holidays to make my way back and forth to work, I can understand that you might have mixed feelings about these people...however, I find your description of them as "yokels" offensive.
Yes, there are people who don't know much about theater who come to NY to see a show, and perhaps some of them are unsophisticated in their entertainment tastes. But there are just as many well educated, smart theater patrons who come from someplace other than NY. And even if you consider them ALL yokels, you might want to consider that their dollars go toward keeping the theater profitable in NY and contribute big bucks to the economy of the city.
