Derek Keeling, third runner up on GREASE: YOUR THE ONE THAT I WANT will be playing Charles Darnay in TALE OF TWO CITIES in Florida:
Per a Myspace bulliten:
Hey everyone...just wanted to let everyone know about my new show. I am going to be playing Charles Darnay in the new musical A Tale of Two Cities. The show opens in October in Sarasota Florida and is expected to open on Broadway in the spring of 2008. To read more about the show you can go to Ataleof2cities.com.
Was this the "top secret" info from yesterday?
I don't know. Perhaps.
I thought yesterday was they were gonna tell us when Austin starts in Hairspray.
I just saw it on my myspace bulliten list and thought I'd post it.

Oh my.
:)
I received the same myspace bulletin. Should be interesting.
Why don't I remember him?
He was the John Stamos-y one.
Ooooh, you scooped ClumsyDude by one day! Nice!
But I think Thesbijean used the right "You're."
"ClumsyDude - I love your avatar. "
:)
Thank you, tobiasragg!
Gotta love Curtis. ♥

So far, in addition to Laura and Max, Ashley Spencer has a gig, Austin and Kate have gigs (opposite each other), and now Derek has a gig. Looks like there was more talent on that show than some people wanted to admit.
They could have a YTOTIW reunion in the theatre district -- maybe at the restaurant where Ashley Anderson is a waitress.

Word on the street the Ashley has a theatre gig somewhere though I don't know what or where it is. And Matt will be joining the cast of a regional production of Grease in Tennessee.

I still doubt Tale of 2 Cities will happen.
It's been "set for Broadway" every year for the past 4.

"The Will Rogers Follies" took about 10 years to get to Broadway - with some pretty significant names behind it - and then when it got there it won the Tony for next musical. Getting a big new show on without a huge movie studio backing you is not exactly the easiest thing to do these days. The show's definitely happening at Asolo because I've already got my tickets - why not give them a break and let's see how it is first before you doom it to "not gonna happen" oblivion?

hmmm - i think i meant "best" musical - not next!
Just as a note - Derek has removed his blog about the casting from his page. Perhaps he accidentally jumped the gun and wasn't supposed to announce it yet. I'm not sure what it means but I figured I'd throw it out there for ya'll.
This astounds me...he was not a great singer, so I'm not seeing it.

Wow! He was cute on tv but could he ever possibly handle this kind of role? We shall see. Yes, it seems as if he has jumped the gun on announcing his casting. This happens quite often. Can you blame them? Getting any job in this business is exciting.
It would be hard to judge, since he did bobble vocally on YTOTIW and it's not like we saw any substantive acting out of anyone on the show, but then again, TV viewers saw only a tiny portion of what went on and the show was so stupidly structured that it was difficult to measure skill in anything.
Since Keeling was Danny Zuko on tour with "Grease," there is some benefit of the doubt factor.

Finally, a pre-Broadway tryout that I can go to! I'll definitely try to come and see it - it looks interesting.

While I didn't find Derek to be that great of a vocalist---he always sounded forced and tight---I did feel bad for him. He had the misfortune of fracking really horribly that one night, and then they replayed the clip over and over every week thereafter. They tried to build up all this drama and suspense: "Will Derek FRACK AGAIN?" I mean, jeez---he's human, cut him some slack. Everyone's voice cracks at some point.
