Hey, kind of off topic, but how was Chris Hoch in Dracula? My dad was his director for a while and does his best to keep up with his work, but was unable to catch the show. As for the whole bad theatre thing, I will go with Starlight and Footloose for sure. I also dont understand how some of you are calling Cats bad theatre? Care to explain? Thanks.

Mine is probably the most grevious sin of theatre lovers, because he's basically considered the musical genious of all time it seems, but I don't like Sondheim. *gets shot*
I like some of the storylines a little, and a couple of the songs from Sweeney. But besides that...I really really do not like his music. I'm sorry guys, maybe it'll grow on me.
Ones I like that are "bad" theatre. Wicked but of course, Jekyll and Hyde (the critics hated it didn't they?), Aida.

Ah! STARLIGHT EXPRESS! One of those ridiculously fabulous, fun to sing along with, guilty pleasures! I saw it twice on Broadway, loved the set, the designs, even the music, but found the storyline maddening! Found it much more satisfying from a storytelling standpoint by the time it got (gasp!) to Vegas, but by then, the incredible "bowl" set and the computerized crossover bridge were gone. Thankfully, the gloriously singable songs were intact (even improved).
OK, and I can see that no one wants to admit they enjoy Wildhorn either....but FIGHT ON! he's a Trojan!

Blah.
"bad" theater versus "good" theater.
Give me a lifetime of Wicked over one night of Gilbert and Sullivan. (ugh!)

Posted: 5/4/05 at 10:00amDoes "Mama Mia" count as "bad" theater. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed that show and continue to pop the CD in on occasion.

I don't have any shows that I'm ashamed of liking. Even "bad" musicals have their great moments :)
Dracula, Dance Of The Vampires, Starlight Express, and Jekyll & Hyde are all among my favorite musicals. Should anyone ask, I would gladly tell them so. Also, my fondness of these so called bad musicals doesn't mean I'm unable to understand the musicals that are generally considered "good".
