Footloose
Honk!
Seussical
Wicked
Sweet Charity
OK, I'll come out of the closet: Saturday Night Fever! I listen to the recording all the time, especially at the gym! Oh, wow, I feel better now...
Well, I wouldn't call this bad theatre. Its cute, and its good to bring kids to and all... but I'm kinda quite embarrassed to admit how much I love Beauty and the Beast.
I have season tickets to a nearby theatre, and they're doing Footloose this year. I kinda know its a bad show, but I'm hoping (and kind of expecting) that a little guilty part of me will enjoy it...

Fame on 42nd Street, I know that I'm the only one out there who does. I will admit that the music/lyrics/book are far from brilliant but I still love it. The book is scarily cheesy but I still love it.
Anything by Frank Wildhorn, especially Jekyll and Hyde and The Scarlet Pimpernel.
I also love Closer to Heaven, Notre-Dame de Paris, and Taboo.

Wicked, Seussical, and Mamma Mia.
I'll say STARLIGHT EXPRESS, DRACULA, SEUSSICAL and JANE EYRE even though I'm still of the mind that JANE EYRE has an excelet set of lyrics and music as well as a fine book. not bad theatre at all. just the wrong season...
I loved Good Vibrations.
And Fame. (Not Fame on 42nd Street, but the original North American touring cast, which I saw many times, and was quite enamored with. Fame on 42nd Street- not the same thing at all, but I'm glad you love it, i*heart*fame!)
I liked Fame on 42nd Street a lot too! *famefanatics.com*

I'm not neccessarily sold that any of these are 'bad' theatre....but they're still the underdog guilty pleasures:
*Footloose - saw it, loved it, went again the very next day. I hadn't seen the movie before hand...I've since tried and it bothers me that they don't sing the songs! :)
*Starlight - oh yes.
*Wicked
*Aida
*Notre Dame

Music Man may not technically be "bad theatre" in the same sense that Brooklyn is, but I HATE that show. It's just BAD. It's boring and...it's just BAD. I can't. Ever. I dropped out of a production of it, and ran out of another that my friend was in...I just can't.
DOTV is a guilty pleasure, with so many delightful parts that didn't belong together: the set was great, but the show on it wasn't; the choreography was energetic, but didn't go with the story; MC was funny, but it wasn't mean to be a funny show; and the finale was funky, but belonged in Fame or something like that.
Somebody mixed up four different jigsaw puzzles, I think.
Oh and the guiltiest of pleasures... 'And Eve was Weak' in Carrie!
There is no need for anyone to apologize for liking a show if they truly like it.
So long as you know the difference beteen loving a particular show and knowing it is NOT the greatest show ever written. And there is no law that you have to automatically like the shows regarded as important or groundbreaking.
You like what you like.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
I guess I'm contractually obligated to say Jane Eyre at this point (and I agree, the show had some really good elements in addition to a FINE Jane in Marla Schaffel and really just suffered from an absolutely awful year to hit Broadway - but they dumped me so nyah). Glad to see others feel this way too.
I have to admit, nothing used to get me jazzed up for musical theatre like the double album concept recording of Jekyll and Hyde. Anthony Warlow, Linda Eder and Carolee Carmello?!?!?
Carrie. It's so bad, I loved it. I'm also a big Stephen King fan and because of it, the musical hit a soft spot for me.
Since when were Aida, Wicked, and Jekyll & Hyde bad theatre????
Oh come on...

Ok, don't shoot me :)
oh boy... I loved scarlet pimpernel for the longest time!
wow... that does feel good to get off the chest.

I know! I actually really liked the original (1.0) version of "Pimpernel," even though the critics killed it.
re: Wicked and Aida - Critically, they weren't all that successful. They're not "bad" under some terms, but they're far from perfect and far from "high art." I don't really consider them bad on the lines of GV and Brooklyn or something, and I DO love Aida, but not really in this sense... if that makes any.

Barbarella. Totally dug the fact that they managed to successfully pull off a futuristic looking (and sounding) show.
Also developing a taste for Starlight Express lately.
Dracula.
Although, I tell everyone (hell, it was my username)...but still...saw it twice - love the score!
I absolutely ADORE Little Women with all my heart. No shame.
I loved Wicked as well (moreso with Menzel). I know some dismiss Thoroughly Modern Millie as "bad theatre" as well, so I guess that deserves a mention. I adore that show.
Dessa Rose-Saw it twice. not bad theater, but not well recieved
Bombay Dreams- saw it 3 times and love it to death! I own the DVD and still think its fabulous!
Little Women- enjoyed Sutton's contribution to the show.
