Hi! I made a strikingly similar thread like this over a year ago to ask how a broke college student could get Hamilton tix. Needless to say, I did not end up booking a flight and subsequently did not see Chris Jackson nor Lin. Or The Color Purple! Yet another advice-seeking thread

BUT the time has finally come when I do, indeed, have airfare booked...okay, it's to Boston, but I plan on leaving for NYC from Boston on the morning of the 24th. (I hear Chinatown Bus is the best way to to get to NYC from Boston?) I'll be traveling solo and I plan on booking a cheap airbnb by the end of the day. Any recs on the area I should stay or airbnb recs?

Getting to the real point of this thread, what shows are a must to see? I'll be there for shows on the 24-26. At this point, I think I will go ahead and buy tix to Kinky Boots and A Bronx Tale. I would *love* to see DEH, but I already know that they're going to be extra hard to come by after The Tony Awards air. I thought about adding Charlie to the list to see that Monday night, but the reviews make it sound terrible.

Spam me with your discount codes (I remember there being some sort of thread for those) if you leave me some advice. What is the best way for a student to get discounts? Again, I want to go ahead and buy at least two tickets beforehand. I don't want deal with lines a week and a half after the Tony!

Thanks all!

Hey Zoumiz! Could you tell us a bit more about your interests/what kind of shows you like? You might get a more tailored response that way Yet another advice-seeking thread There are so many great options on Broadway right now!

Hi! I love shows, both musicals and straight plays, that can make me cry. I want a show that will leave me thinking about it for days. Thanks for asking!

I'd skip Bronx Tale....its "fine", but nothing extraordinary.

To think: try 1984 or Indecent (both plays)

To cry: Come From Away

For discounts, look at Theatermania.com.

If you like crying (lol), I would definitely see Miss Saigon

I really enjoy A Bronx Tale and I only waited two hours to get rush tickets. To cry and think about musicals Miss Saigon and Come From Away were great (obviously DEH is the ideal but you are correct that it will only get worse in the summer). For a good time I love The Great Comet!!

Also try the lotteries...especially DEH/Hamilton. Though the chances are low someone has to win.

Lastly, you might want to book you AirBnB soon since that weekend is the Pride March with a lot of festivities the whole weekend.

Saw Charlie a few nights ago and was nervous about it based on reviews, but it was really fun and well done I think.... Christian Borle was spectacular, too.

OSLO is a great choice for a play, and is cheap via LincTix for excellent seats. Groundhog Day, The Great Comet, and A Doll's House Part 2 are all great choices as well.

If you're willing to sit in line for 12 hours or cover the cost of someone else's SRO ticket in exchange for getting you one, DEH will probably make you cry.

I adored Groundhog Day. I laughed a lot, but it also made me cry. I've been back to see it multiple times and their rush has been really easy so far. I don't know if that will change after the Tonys.

You didn't say which month you'll be travelling in, so I'm assuming you mean June. I consider the following to be "must see" shows currently playing:

Sunset Boulevard (final performance is June 25)

Groundhog Day

Come From Away (worth the premium price)

Dear Evan Hansen (worth the premium price)

Also, if you enjoy epic, sweeping productions like I do, I would also recommend Miss Saigon.

Finally, 1984 will definitely make you think, but be forewarned that it is a brutal experience unlike anything I've ever seen on the stage.

Thank you, thank you! I appreciate all the recs. I have booked my airbnb in Brooklyn. I arrive in NYC the early afternoon on June 24 and will be leaving the morning on the 27th. I wish I had more time...

I'll be honest, Kinky went on my list after Brendon Urie started, I'll be honest. BUT, I know there are some excellent shows right now, and I may have to give that up. I'm not a huge Panic! fan anyhow. Now, A Bronx Tale is one of my all-time favorite movies. I grew up watching that. I guess it's a bit of a nostalgic trip for me; however, from what I'm reading, it appears that there are shows that a must-not-miss-seeing and ABT isn't one of them.

With that said, there are only four shows that I could possibly see with the Broadway schedule. Monday will be Groundhog Day, and if I can't get a ticket for that, I will see Charlie. As for which shows to see for the Saturday 2 PM, Saturday 8 pm, and Sunday 3 pm, I have so many options. DEH, CFA, ADH2, Kinky, Bronx, Indecent, and 1984 are the ones I think I would want to see. DEH and CFA are my top choices. Tickets aren't going to be easy to come by...

Well, I better go ahead and get a ticket for Groundhog Day. I don't want to wait until I'm in NYC for the other ones, in fear of not being able to get other tickets, but I don't see any other choice.

I have taken the train from Boston to Penn Station and it was fairly inexpensive, but I booked pretty far in advance.  Also, if you are open to seeing many different shows, Stub Hub could be a great choice for you on the day of the show.  On the train down I was looking at Hamilton tix for that evening's performance and there were many available.  Prices kept dropping and about an hour before showtime, a single aisle seat in orchestra was $300 - may sound $$$$ but great price for Hamilton.

Zoumiz, I'd go to show-score.com and search for the shows your interested in, then go the where it says "discounts" and "deals" (two different sections, but both give discount codes), find the best deal from there then, when you get to new york, go to the B.O (unless online there are very limited seats) and buy there (avoid the fees).
