You Can't Take it With you Stage Door

I saw the show yesterday, but I couldn't stay for the stage-door and now I'm considering taking my Playbill and going back to the stage-door some night. I'm wondering though, which actors come out and sign after the evening shows? Which of them will pose for pictures if asked?
(By the way, I DID look through the other YCTIWY thread and didn't find the answers to my questions)

Posted: 9/14/14 at 5:58pmYou will have better luck if you send your playbill, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope, to the stage door. If you do that, most if not all of the cast is likely to sign it. At the stage door, Mr Jones never signs and Rose usually only signs for a very small few.

Posted: 9/14/14 at 6:30pmI did stage door 10 days or so ago and not many people signed. Even the guard said you kind of have to yell their names bc they just don't assume that you are waiting for them (anyone but Jones) and so they just leave. It was kind of disappointing bc i wasn't going to yell at any of them so a lot just kind of walked by the crowd quickly.

Posted: 10/27/14 at 4:39pmIs this type of stuff where the actors don't assume you want them to sign still going on? Also, how big of a crowd is at the stage door, and how are Rose Byrne and Kristine Nielson (do they sign, are they nice?) Thank you, guys.

I went to the stage door after a preview matinee and maybe 11 of the 19 cast members came out. Rose went straight to the people in front of the stage door then down to the end that lets out to the street, so just make sure you are in a location where she has to pass you to leave (I did not get her autograph). Annaleigh and Kristine were wonderful! Very polite and appreciative of everyone's positive reactions to their performances. They both signed and were happy to take pictures with those who asked. Also the guy who plays DePinna (sp?), I forget his name, just walks down the street. So you would have to try to get his attention. Everyone was very kind. Everyone that comes out (Including Rose) will pose for a picture if asked. If you want pictures go back with your playbill, get them to sign it and get pictures while you are there, then mail your playbill and ask them to get the remaining cast members to sign. I hope I could help!
Also if you do mail your playbill you don't have to write stage door on it. You can simply address it like so:

Posted: 10/27/14 at 5:27pmThank you, I haven't seen the show yet so when I see the show (not sure when or if yet) it would be my first time at the stage door. I was just wondering if those other comments mentioned were still going on. By the way where do you mean in front of the stage door? Thanks

Posted: 10/27/14 at 6:31pmI mean like the behind the barricade that is directly in front of the door. So either stand there or to the left of there.

Posted: 10/27/14 at 11:27pmI eventually did go back and stage door last week. Rose did not come out and sign at all. James Earl Jones came out and waved, but went straight to his car. Neither of actors playing Tony's parents signed. As far as I can remember, everyone else came out and signed and took pictures. Elizabeth Ashley took a while to come out, but when she did she was very friendly and gladly signed and posed for photos.

So if you would like a James Earl Jones autograph...don't waste your time or his?
It's just not happening?

Yes, that seems to be the case.

If you don't even know his name, why do you want his signature?

I have no problem if he prefers not to sign. If I know it then I won't waste my time waiting or annoying him by asking.
Thanks for the answer.

No worries, there will be a future post with an image asking people to help identify who signed it.

Brian, not 100% correct on JEJ signature. His son, who is extremely nice, will take anything you have to sign before the show. (At least on the two different times, years I was there). Last year, or so,(The Best Man) he took my camera inside and took a picture for me of JEJ in his dressing room. (I don't collect signatures). This year, at YCTIWY,as I was awaiting for others, he came out and gave back to a small crowd various Star Wars memorabilia that he signed. That is when I learned he was his son, not an assistant. I'm not saying this is all of the time , but it happened two out of two in my view. It's worth a try.

In this video that was taken at the YCTIWY stage door, it appears that James Earl Jones is signing autographs throughout the whole thing. so, maybe if you're really cool about it and ask gently, he'll oblige. Worth a shot!

^that's interesting and surprising. Yeah I mean maybe if you ask politely it will work. The stage-door guy did specifically say that he would not stop to sign, but I know sometimes these stage-door guys say things that don't come straight from the actor.
JEJ seems to be a really nice guy. When I did the stage-door for "The Best Man," he came out and chatted with everyone rather than signing. He was really friendly.

To Jay Lerner-Z,
I wanted his autograph because I thoroughly enjoyed his performance and actually just finished up playing Mr. Kirby a few weeks ago. I'm sorry that I didn't remember his name right off the top of my head. I don't really know why it should matter.
Also I was trying not to be a total f*cking a$$hole

Hmm, you should look up one of the threads on here where some people write to seemingly every single production to get signed stuff and see if you can get him to sign it that way?

Posted: 10/31/14 at 11:31amFor what it's worth, James Earl Jones signed after a performance of The Best Man I attended two years back. Perhaps it's a rarity.

Fair enough.
No judgement on my part, just wondering.
