well, for one, Franklin isn't in the show

Linus was played by B.D. Wong, who's asian.

Uh, no. They made Shroeder black for the same reasomn they msde Linus Asian. They wanted a multi-racial cast.
The actor who played Shroeder was not necesarily the most talented to audition. He was the most talented black actor to audition. They knew in advance they wanted a black actor. The new song Andrew Lippa, "Beethoven Day", was clearly written to be performed by a black singer. It would have looked ridiculous to have a white guy do it.
