Are they going to do some boradcast of a performance of grease with the 2 winnners? Otherwise, all this hoopla and the majority of America (or the 500 of people) who voted for the leads will never get to see them perform. Is it the goal, to get more people to the theater (which isnt a bad thing) or to make a TV show. In any case, with Idol, the you see the winners "final performance" and can very easily purchase their CD and such. But with this, you need to go to NY to see the winners.
just wondering
Interesting question. I hadn't thought about it that way. I don't think they would tape a performance.
But the probable side effect of this tv show is that more people will buy tickets for the Broadway production.
I was always under the impression they would follow the "How Do You Solve" format.

I imagine, if the show does okay, there will be come live performances on TV via the talk show circuit, but I doubt they'll broadcast an entire performance. It's not any different than American Idol, you have to buy the CD and go to the concert if you want to see your winner perform. In this case, you'll have to purchase a ticket to the show.
I think the theory is that voters will want to see the if they really like whoever won and have been faithful followers of the show. I'm probably gonna vote, but I don't really care about the show.
I was wondering this too.
With the AI winners, there's a tour (either solo or the group) and people don't have to travel as far.
Ivan and I have already decided not to make a trip to see this, unless we're in NYC for a different reason.
I believe the final prize should be leads in a TOUR of the show, hitting each major city. That way, it isn't any different than a regular tour.
I have no MAJOR desire to see this at this point,
but that depends on how the winners are and who they cast as supporting.
You raise a good question: How will AMERICA see their Sandy and Danny- unless on TV?
"I was always under the impression they would follow the "How Do You Solve" format. "
What did they do?
I will cackle at the first "OMG THE SANDY I VOTED 4 WAS OUT 2DAY I HATE UNDERSTUDIZ OMG."
I laugh more at the idea of them having 4 Sandys and 4 Dannys and before each performance, the audience votes which one they want to see. At intermission, they can re-vote and kick people out of the role before Act II

Genius! It's the new generation of Broadway.
Craig, you're going to be a billionaire.
Just think of the posting that would go on after that
"I could !@#$%^U&*I believe my audience. They booted Idina off. I was so pissed. I paid $400 for that ticket and didn't even get to see her finish the part. And poor Andy Karl got booted only because the Altarholics were all at standing room only and didn't have voting buttons. Instead the Esparzites took over!"

At which point, World War III would ensue.
Following hollywood's example of movies - musicals and back into movies..
Grease will be the first show to go from Musical to movie to musical and back to movie
Casting will be done with "You're the one that we dubbed"
Where they will hold an audience participation program where people can nominate everyone they possibly can think of that would be wrong for the role because they can't sing.. but no matter, because they'll be dubbed!"
