Never walked out on a show or a performer. Not sure why. I surely should have at some time in my life. But by now probably never will no matter how awful. I will stick it out 'til the end. Some older people in front of me walked out of "Rent". A father and son walked out of "Into the Woods". I guess I just can't do it.

I have never walked out of a performance and never would for reasons different than all of you. After spending $140 - $200 for my wife and I to see a show we sure as heck wouldn't leave early. You're talking about too much money to just get up and leave. I did, though, want to leave one performance...Fosse!!! What a bore. If I weren't sleeping during the performance I probably would have thought about bolting but, again, the money would have made me stay. And man was that show WAY too long.

I had the misfortune of appearing in a truly awful production where I did not enter until the second act. The theatre allowed me to sit in the booth and watch the first act and every night I would watch people leave in droves! If the show had been any good I would have been bewildered, but as it was such a mess, I almost wanted to warn the audience before they bought their tickets. It is not the audience’s job to support the actors. It is the actor’s (and director’s and designer’s) job to keep the audience so intrigued they would not even think of leaving. If I paid full price for a show and feel my time is worth more than the hour or two wasted watching a really dreadful production, I have no problems walking out.

Seeing FOSSE on someone's list of "walkouts" reminded me of another one from which I wanted to flee...

Dullsville. How was this EVER considered a musical? It's strictly a stylized dance recital. The fact that this won a Tony Award for Best Musical is sad.

Never walked out of a Broadway show. I've missed the second acts of local shows and tours before, when I'd decided I'd wasted enough time. I always make sure it's a unanimous decision among the people I'm with.
Recently left Gem of the Ocean by August Wilson at the Goodman.
In NYC, I would have left The Dead if there were an intermission.
When I saw The Wild Party on Broadway, which I thought was amazing, I was suprised to see many many people leave during the course of the show.

YES! I agree! If THE DEAD gave me the opportunity to flee, I most certainly would have done so.
What did ANYONE see in that show? I had heard such interesting things about it and couldn't have been more disappointed (or bored).

At the risk of angering a lot of people, I wanted to walk out on "Rent." And I could have because I didn't pay for the tickets. My brother gave them to me as a gift (except he couldn't come with me because he was out of town that weekend), so I brought a friend along....my brother would have never known if I left early. But my friend was really enjoying it, so I stayed (also out of respect for the actors). I don't ever plan on seeing it again though. LOL

Shows I've walked out on:
PACIFIC OVERTURES (2 hours of kabuki like music when you've got a sinus headache is too much to bear!)
BEST LITTLE WHORE HOUSE (absolutely tasteless!)
AIDA (a trashing of Giuseppi Verdi's masterpiece)
VIEUX CARRE (Tennessee Williams at his worst!)
ROCKABYE HAMLET (it had no reason to exist!)

The Dead was aptly named. You did not come out humming the music. What a rotten idea for a musical. My wife & I were seduced by the critics. We had more fun at DOTV
We walked out on "Stones In My Pocket" & " Copenhagen" BORING
I saw Rockabye Hamlet & thought it was an absolute hoot. I have a live recording of the entire score. You gotta love the song "Something Is Rotten in Denmark"

I've never walked out on any Broadway show or any movie before. There was actually on time I had to. When I saw Independance Day, the movie stopped and we had to wait for the people to fix it. So, I walked out. But otherwise, I've never walked out on a show. I've never been bored with any show I've ever seen either. I research a show, and listen to a bit of a music before I see it, so I know I'll like it. I don't spend money on a show that I don't know anything about. I don't have that type of money-lol.

How could anyone walk out of COPENHAGEN? It was staggeringly intelligent! If I let my mind wander for 3 seconds, I lost five profound ideas and several twists of the plot! It was brilliant!

I have never walked out on a show that I've went to. One reason is because the price of the tickets (if I buy tickets, I will go to see the show and stay for the whole thing), another is because going to New York to see a Broadway show is a rare treat for me, so I enjoy what I get to see while I'm there.

I also left a production of Copenhagen the second I got my chance. Maybe a little too intellectual for me, but I was tremendously bored.

Just call me a cockeyed optimist but I have never walked out on a show. I'm always hoping the 2nd act will be an improvement.

Now this is a topic that elicited opinions. Thanks to all for your views, they certainly vary.
Some of the recent walkouts of mine have included:
LES MIZ(yes I have the CD, No, I hated the production) URINETOWN (No, I don't have the CD)
Some I would have left if I coud:
RENT
HAIRSPRAY
Everyone has their own opinion about the value of specific musicals...You know the lyric, "what ever happened to class?" LOL
Yours for a better Broadway!

In your posting you state:
"I have never walked on on a show I went to"
Would it be possible for you to walk out on a show you WEREN'T attending?
Please explain.

How could I possibly forget walking out on this insidious piece of trash? I felt so sordid that I went directly to St. Patrick's Cathedral and had my confession heard (by a priest who wanted to know all the salacious details!)

I walked out on one show in my life (actually a few weeks ago) and it was Movin' Out. I was really just bored. But, I didn't get up and leave, my finace and I left at intermission, so I kind of didn't feel as bad.

Good point DP (about not being able to walk out of a show you weren't seeing). LOL
