Sutton has to be playing Inga-- she can do that. Kristen could do it too, but the Madeleine Kahn role is THE part for her. I can't wait to hear mutter the immortal like "He must have an enormous Schwantstupper!"
(Forgive my phonetic spelling)

Posted: 10/11/06 at 11:54amI'm not sure Oh Sweet Mystery of life will be in there. Is it in the public domain? Anyway it seems like Playbill got the roles confused too becuase they say Kristin is doing Inga (terri garr's role). So they know which role is which. I agree Sutton is wrong for the show but it's a reading so we'll see.

"Jane Krakowski would be perfect as Inga."
I'd put my vote in for this, but still feel Kristin would be great.
Although if they keep true to the movie... Ms C belting out "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" could be a delight!

I think we can all give Sutton a chance, right?
If this casting holds true, I'll be SO excited.

Trevor Graydon (orig Marc Kudich) sung that line

I can't wait for this either!
All star casting aside, as much as I adore Sutton, and she is a great comedic actress, I just don't see her in this show.
But her hubby, Christian Borle, would make a great young Dr. F.

I also can see Borle as Dr. Frankenstein.
This cast looks incredible. I also did not ever think of Sutton Foster for this show (in either role), but, I say 'Give her a chance' she might surprise a lot of us with this role.

Posted: 10/11/06 at 2:34pmI agree. She hasn't played a character like that before, but that doesn't mean she's incapable of doing it. She can be VERY funny, so what makes you think she can't do "Mel Brooks humor?"
#44re: Young Frankenstein
Posted: 10/11/06 at 2:36pmI don't think I've ever seen her do anything where I thought was organically funny, though she sure tries awful hard.
#45re: Young Frankenstein
Posted: 10/11/06 at 2:37pmhehehe Another reason why it's good to be in Chicago.
#46re: Young Frankenstein
Posted: 10/11/06 at 2:39pmWell, that's because none of her characters have lent themselves to being "organically" funny. MILLIE was corny humor, LITTLE WOMEN was spunky and anything but organic, and her role in DROWSY doesn't scream "organic" either. She's not really done anything for us to say that she can't do it. What she HAS done, however, is prove herself to be a wonderful actress in all three of her leading lady (and Tony nominated) roles.

And Mel Brooks's humor is "organically funny?"
Hardly.

I guess what I'm getting at is that you are either funny or you aren't. Chenoweth is a naturally gifted comedianne. Her humour is effortless. Foster has seemed incredibly forced every time she is called upon to be "funny."
But Mel Brooks knows comedy better than I do - and if he wants Foster, I'll go with it for now.
