I say you should buy it online. I actually prefer to know the score ahead of time so I can pay more attention to what's happening on stage than the lyrics. From what I've heard/seen on *a certain site*, the score isn't that bad; what you have to remember is that this is Mel Brooks and the show is more about the comedy than the music (at least as far as I'm concerned).
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

Posted: 12/16/07 at 8:03amThe score's highly enjoyable. I've seen it on November 14 and also, well, had other sources beforehand to know it a little better. It's no Producers, but better than a lot that stranded on Broadway in all the last years.

Wow.. I will try to get this next week ..when I go to NYC again to see SPEECH & DEBATE...So how does one get this CD if your not seeing the show? Do I just go in the theater (during a Saturday Matinee) and tell them that I want to buy the CD? or I have to wait till the show is over? or can I get it while its playing bec. I will be out of SPEECH & DEBATE earlier than YM and I want to go home early...Pls advise? Thanks
BTW..$25.00 is a steep price for a CD! That's a ticket of one OFF BROADWAY show (thru TDF) already

Posted: 12/16/07 at 9:32amJay, go to the theatre about 45 before their matinée begins. There will a merchandise person standing outside the entrance of the theatre selling the CDs. You can pick one up without even entering the theatre.

I appreciate that instead of somebody actually answering a question all they do is make fun of a grammar error.
I'm just going to wait until the 26th. I might be in NYC Saturday, but 25 bucks is ridiculous when I can order it on Amazon for 12. I just wanted to know what people thought of it.

I saw the show again on friday night. Firstly the show is much much tighter than when i saw it in early NY previews. It still is far from perfect but i think its a great night at the theatre and the audience really had a ball.
I bought the CD and downloaded it asap. Its a very true recording of the show with some great orchestrations. The bonus track is 'Alone' that was sung by Elizabeth but cut in Seattle. For a true theatre fan and someone who works in the theatre its worth $25. For some one like me from London its great to have the CD way before it gets to London specialist stores.
The recording of 'Xanadu' doesnt even merit a mention next to the work done on 'YF'

Posted: 12/17/07 at 12:26amOK, so I don't know if any of you have read any of my previous posts in any of the previous threads, but I bought this CD for one reason... "Roll In The Hay". I love Sutton Foster and LOVE LOVE LOVE that song. Megan Mullally's tracks are also great. "Transylvania Mania" is also fun to listen to. Overall, I think a great cast recording... but not as great as XANADU, lol.

According to this:
http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/12313
there will be a signing on Jan 15th at the B&N near Lincoln Center with Mel Brooks. There is no mention if the rest of the cast will be there.

The songs sound so much better in the show. I don't know what's up with the ensemble parts, but they sound all wrong and just odd. In most of the songs in the show, some of them will add more sound to a song than others (for instance - "and even shall it reign" in "The Brain" - I believe Sarrah Strimel is usually the loudest on that part), and it just sounds weird that they're all equal. And the tempos are too fast.
Also, someone needs to play the first second of "Someone" and then play the first second of "Gaston" from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. It's the same exact sound.
