For me:
-Natasha Richardson in A Streetcar Named Desire*
-Bernadette Peters in Gypsy
-Kristin Chenoweth in Wicked
-Cherry Jones in Doubt
-Victoria Clark in A Light in the Piazza
-Raul Esparza in Cabaret
-Sutton Foster in Little Women
*Absolutely the most brilliant performance I've ever seen given by an actor. And my personal favorite.

I was lucky enough to see:
Carol Channing in Hello Dolly int he early 90's in SF - although thrilled to see her, I spent the majority of the show hoping she wouldn't fall and break something! She seemed quite fragile.
Keith Carradine/Dee Hoty/Cady Huffman/Dick Latessa in the First National Tour of Will Roger's Follies. - Talk about your "stunt casting", by the way...I was sure Carradine would suck and was pleasantly surprised when he not only didn't, but was amazing.
Savion Glover in Jelly's Last Jam - I had watched him from afar for years and when he came with the tour to SF, I was there and duly impressed by him. The show...not so much.
Jeffry Denman and Meredith Patterson in White Christmas - I was treated to two dancers that brought the meaning of "Broadway dancers" to life. I hadn't seen tapping and partner dancing like that on stage ever!

That I was able to see live? Lord.um.........
I gotta say I went to see Guys and Dolls for Ewan..and I honestly loved his performance, I thought he did great..but as far as the characters go...Nathan Detroit is a much better character than Skye anyway...and Douglas Hodge was PERFECT. He was geeenius. When I think about it, the whole cast of Guys and Dolls was great...but as far as character and perfection goes...Douglas Hodge.
Jan Maxwell in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
PLEASEEE LET ME DECIDE USING CDs AND erm..YES BECAUSE I NEEEED TO SAY ROGER BART IN YAGMCB!! PLEEEEEEEEASE

I suppose I'd have to say (and these are National Tour, not Broadway, for I haven't seen much on Broadway, someday I hope to fix that):
Marla Schaffel in The Sound of Music--I had really enjoyed listening to her in the OBCR of Jane Eyre, and was ecstatic to find out she was going to be my Maria! Such wonderful energy and life, took a beloved character out from under the solid base that Julie Andrews provided and spinned it in a new direction.
Keala Settle (Hairspray Tour)-- I suppose this was also because I got the chance to meet her after the show, but onstage she
showed me the energy and enthusiasm that is Tracy Turnblad. It was wonderful to see her dance up on that stage with as much life as Tracy ought to have, and have a darn good singing voice as well!

Posted: 10/16/05 at 12:45pmI haven't really seen anything on Broadway before. But I definitely have to say Tonya Dixon as Fantine in the National Tour of Les Mis. She absolutely blew me away with her version of I Dreamed A Dream. It was so gorgeous!
