Your MOST BELOVED musical

Posted: 1/19/08 at 9:59pmI know that this is the last thing anyone wants to hear right now since these boards are already flooded with posts about it, but my most beloved musical is Rent. It probably always will be. It got me into theatre and to this day it is the only musical that has ever truly changed me. I've been affected by others, but not enough to last. It is because I love it so much that I'm okay with it closing. Sure it's sad, but I would rather there be no Rent on Broadway than a horrible one. It's time and life goes on (see my sig). I'll always have the OBCR...

Duh, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
It hits so many of my likes:
-80's nostalgia
-Hauntings/ghosts
-Love story
-Deep, rich color
-Respecting the past (i.e. keeping the show in its originally 1988 form--no tinkering with it)
-Paris, my favorite international city
-lots of stunning visuals
-classice New York experience
-and so much more

Rent
It's the first show I saw on broadway that truely meant something to me. It truely got me intrested in theater and gives off a very strong and poweful message. I'm so sad it's closing(or so they say is is I've heard rumors of an extension to 8-24 which I hope is true). Something tells me those rumors aren't true those which makes me really sad. I don't want this amazing show to leave us

Posted: 1/19/08 at 10:15pmI'm telling you the RENT producers need to just pour some money into some cutting-edge advertising, do some sort of crazy casting call, and keep this show going because it is just too important to too many people to end on Broadway. Adam Pascal convinced me to give up on RENT with his blog entry but these people on this thread just renewed my RENT love. long live RENT

Posted: 1/19/08 at 10:27pmGot to be Sweeney Todd. It's one of my favorite musicals, my first Sondheim musical, and really got me into musicals hardcore. I fell in love with it at 11, and four years later, I still love it. Every time listening to the OBCR is like talking to an old friend.

Sweeney Todd. It is just so chilling and an utter hoot all at the same time. And some of the best lyrics in my mind.

Phantom of the Opera.
I know it's the cool thing to do on this board to bash it, but it was the first show that really sparked my love of Broadway. I had seen the occasional show in the past, but it was maybe 1-2 every year. When I saw PHANTOM, I just fell in love with every aspect of it. I had the perfect seats, third row center, which I got for my mom for the both of us as a Mother's Day present. We both absolutely loved the show. I have now seen the show around 14 or 15 times, so it will always hold a place in my heart, but since then I have seen about 75 other musicals & plays that I probably never would have gone to see had I not walked into the Majestic that May day.

Merrily We Roll Along, and Gypsy.
Gypsy is absolutely perfect in every way.
Merrily We Roll Along is well, even with it's flaws, it's amazing. Beautiful and thrilling score, and amazing book potential.

Kiss Me, Kate
I saw it at the age of ten, right after I started singing, and it made me start to think about pursuing a career in singing, despite my extreme shyness when I was doing anything other than singing.

INTO THE WOODS
I saw it when I was a kid,and I was already slightly into musicals thanks to my mother's taste in music. But I saw Into the Woods, and I was so blown away. I was caught up in the music and the costumes and the story. I've always loved reading, so as a young kid, I had a bizarre and huge imagination, and Into the Woods inspired me so much. To this day, it's my dream to be in Into the Woods and I love it still. Especially now that I don't have my mother anymore, I have a really deep connection of love with that show. I just can't get over it. It solves everything for me. I'm a person who gets easily stressed, and I don't deal with stress well, and especially now, I'm in my junior year of high school, so my anxiety is high 100 percent of the time. Into the Woods calms me down so much, and it's the one reason I can always turn to when explaining how amazing a musical is and how much it can touch you.
Whew.

Posted: 1/20/08 at 2:57amDefinitely FOLLIES, not the musical I consider the most brilliant, the most fascinating, or the best. Yet it is certainly my MOST BELOVED musical.
