Munk, I've been a huge fan of the documentary for years. So I was indeed looking forward (too much probably) to the musical. I found ACT 1 to be a complete waste of my time and was so irked by not seeing the GREY GARDENS I had come to know and love that it turned me off from caring about the whys and wheres these folks came from. To each their own, but i'll stick with the documentary...though, "Another Winter In a Summers Town" was a favorite new song of mine this season.

My initial reaction was "eh". Several hours later, it's still "eh". I'm sure everything I like will be snubbed, so I'm set up for disappointment. "Spring Awakening" will win many awards, and I will shake my head in confusion.

It's funny that "pulling a Pajama Game" is now a term.

Despite what people think of Chenoweth, she definitely deserved a nom above Debra Monk (who is great in a pretty lame role) and LBB (who does a nice job in a role that should be a star turn).

I can't even think about that yet. After having experienced this day first hand LAST year, and then hoping for a close friend this year, it's just disillusioning and further affirms that the Tony's are less and less about art and more and more about touring and $$$$. I mean, it's ALWAYS been about $$$ but you hope that with some of the nominations, you would see some variability.

For example: Rebecca Luker over Erin Davie for Best Featured Actress in a Musical?!?

Rebecca Luker is a wonderful actress and singer, but Erin Davies work in Grey Gardens far outshines Ms. Luker's in Mary Poppins, if just for the difference in material they have to work with.

Again, I see that it's all about who you know.

Legally Blonde for Best BOOK and SCORE?

It's hard to imagine that someone who didn't just get great reviews, but glowing love letters like Chenoweth did didn't get a nomination while the show she was in got a nomination despite a lukewarm reception (to put it nicely).

I also think a lot of the categories looked absolutely boring. It was like they picked from a pool of five shows to nominate for four slots so they filled out all the slots with the same five shows interchanging one show for another. To think these nominations were what I was anticipating all season long. Talk about a let down.

dramaqueen, you do know that even though a show is your favorite, it doesn't automatically deserve to win in every category.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

"Best Costume Design of a Musical
WILL WIN: Susan Hilferty, Spring Awakening
WANT TO WIN: Susan Hilferty, Spring Awakening
POSSIBLE DARK HORSE: Mary Poppins"

I don't think SA deserves a win in this category...not even a nomination. I would've liked to see Curtains at least nominated in this. Or at least Pirate Queen, like a few have been saying.

Mille, I agree. That Spring Awakening was even nominated for costumes shows how hard the Tony voters worked to not give Pirate Queen anything. Slightly changing the topic, I was hoping that they would still be holding Tarzan against Disney and wouldn't give Mary Poppins a best musical nom. It was apparently false hope. Damn.

You know ... i "liked" company ... but i really dont think it should win best revival. Speaking as someone who had NO CLUE what company was a bout before i saw it. (which is about the case for all musicals i see)

I found it VERY hard to follow. I like the music, the voices. But it wasn't till i talked to my sister afterwards did i get it.

That style did NOT work ... heck i'd rather see apple tree win it over company.
