My young girls adore this film - and while that alone is not a redeeming quality for most broadway shows - I'm wondering if that is a possibility - it seems to be a ready made for a Disney run on bway -
??

No. F**k the tweens.
If they did, then perhaps this time they'd allow the amazing and skilled musical theatre actresses to sing, instead of just giving them all minor parts and having them stand around impotently in the background while movie-goers coo over Amy Adams's respectable-but-no-Judy-Kuhn soprano.
I was lucky enough to get to spend some time with the director of the movie. He talked pretty openly about the fact that they were exploring the possibility of creating the stage show. Their big question was how to stage the animated sequences. This was over a year ago, so no idea if those conversations are even still happening.
It would be cute, but not having the animated parts like that would be sort of pointless, in my opinion.

Please god no! We dont need another movie to stage show. Nothing new is on Broadway.
Nicholas, that's just not true. While the number of film/stage adaptations has risen in the past decade, there is still a ton of non-film projects all over to indulge in. Look at 13, Tale of Two Cities, [title of show] and In the Heights. And if you want to talk plays and play revivals, the list goes on even further.
As for the subject of the thread, I don't think it would be a good idea. No point without the animation, and it would be difficult to bring the "real NYC" feel of the streets and locations to the stage properly.

The score isn't good enough to stand on its own, IMO.
I would rather see something original.
But. . .in this age of Broadway. . .that's few and far between.
My thoughts are that this film should be left alone and NOT adapted for the stage. It seems a bit pointless and the source material isn't that special to begin with.
If Disney is going to adapt more films for the Broadway stage, they should be doing Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules, IMO.
Embarrasingly enough, I'd love to see this on stage hahaha. And I think they'd find a way to include the animation. It's disney. They could figure it out.

I wouldn't say that, blondebaby. Do recall how they did swimming in The Little Mermaid. That works marvelously.
Or, not at all.
agreed sporkgoddess,
The score isn't really good enough.
Well obviously there would need to be a lot more musical numbers, but I think the ones they have are just fine.
However, my biggest concern would be the whole climax of the film. How do you do that on stage? (The animation and the animals would be a piece of cake.) It would be like the "Annie" movie in reverse, taking something clearly designed for the screen and thinking of another ending for the stage.
It's disney. They could figure it out.
That's what we all said about The Little Mermaid and look how that turned out.
I think there are other Disney films (Aladdin, Mulan, Hercules) that would make better stage adaptations. The animation aspect in Enchanted would be a huge hurdle to overcome. And how would they handle Narissa's transformation into the dragon, and the resulting fight?

the only broadway actress i could see plaing giselle on stage is kristen chenoweth. but sadly it will be a long time before disney even considers this.

They could do something involving the play being done through a scrim in the cartoon parts and then the scrim rising in the transition to the real world.
The whole concept of Enchanted relies on the animated sequences.
Also, Chenoweth needs to start playing her age. She looks ancient next to Lee Pace on Pushing Daisies.
Totally possible and effective if the show starts out as an animated movie on a 2D screen then tranforms to live action on stage. I would expect a reworking of the songs and story to fit a stage adaptation, i.e. toilet scrubbing roaches would be difficult to see from the upper mezz. I would rather see an original story, but if we must resort to already produced films, I would love to see Pinocchio as a musical.
Kristen's character is older than Lee's on "Pushing Daisies." And really, ancient? She still has a smokin' body and a beautiful mug...if only we could all be that blessed. Still my favorite short stack...

You're making my flesh crawl.
this was brought up after the movie was made. i think its a bad idea. It just doesn't translate well to the stage. Sometimes we need to let films be films and let shows be shows.
