I really enjoyed reading Jose's PM. You may be going to hell for posting it, but you're heavenly to me for that. Did you know Jose can delete posts? It's a special privlege he has as a writer for this site. If one feels one can call him a writer. I've watched him do it to mine after I've called him on his crap. Ergo some of my disenchantment around here.

Jose's always talking about how "the emperor has no clothes" and it's his job to point it out. First it was Kushner and Tesori and Caroline, or Change. "Bad, dull, emperor has no clothes." He felt that way without seeing it. Amended his opinion after he finally did.

More recently it's Assassins. "Emperor has no clothes." Who does he mean is the emperor? Sondheim? Mantello? Ceveris? O'Hare? I'd have sex with 50% of them, so it's okay to me if they have no clothes.

But anyway, as for Jose, what does it matter, really? A bulldog by any other name is still all the first original syllable. (During the lurking phase, do you remember me battling his stupidity about Hairspray? Homosexuality? Good times! Or how about my battles with BestofBroadway over Hairspray and The South Park Movie?)

My point is, and I do have one, I'm a person who enjoys the written word. Whether reading some, writing some, or seeing and hearing people perform some.

And I appreciate the time and effort of people who will write an essay explaining exactly where they're coming from. A Marc Shaiman, a Papalovesmambo.

What's funny tho, is when people don't do it and they still reveal more about themselves than they know and then you call them on it and they write, "You don't know me at all!" or "Lighten up!" or my personal favorite, "LOL!" Like you can't learn a LOT about people by reading them over time!

My point is, use language to name your experience, to tell your truth. Don't use the same five words to describe everything you see and do. Expand!

Marc, I really appreciate the fact that you post here (under your real name) it shows a true trust for people and I think all of your posts have contributed to the board very well and I hope to see many more.

My only concern would be that I don't really see you posting in threads outside of those of Hairspray or the Off-Topic board. I realize a lot of why you post is to dispel rumors but I would like to see where you stand on shows like Assassins or issues like the contract negotiations.

Keep up the great posts and I hope to see the name Marc Shaiman for a long time to come!

actually Summy,

if you do an exhaustive search of my posts, you'll see I DID choose to post my great admiration for CAROLINE, OR CHANGE...and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

but I certainly feel it is not correct for me to write in anything negative about any show unless it's from some kind of historical vantage...

and embarrassingly, I have not seen ASSASINS yet...I actually have hardly been in Manhattan for the last few months, and when I'm there, I love to see HAIRSPRAY, it's such a great show!!!!

but I can sing you the entire score of PACIFIC OVERTURES if you'd like!!

very tricky there, but I was only commiting to the show FIDDLER, not the current production...how's that for non-commital?

any production of this brilliantly structured and written show is a joy, but I was in shock over the lack of the CH sound in L'CHAIM...that's all you're gettin' outa me, bub!

Well, I guess I have no room to comment, also. All I have heard is the cast recording (which brings back up the teen OBCR phase) and that is the only version of Fiddler I have heard. The lighting for the current production looks fantastic, but I cannot really judge anything else.
