but what do you have against Anne Murray?!
I adore Anne Murray! "You Needed Me"?! I sure did! a voice like vanilla ice cream
but when you're Blaming Canada, well, it was clear the bitch was goin' DOWN!!
It's about time someone put her in her place, anyways.
Amen Matt. And I also commend you Marc for being a part of this community. Your insight and humor has made me grateful I've chosen to be part of the theatre world. Keep it up!
Wow. I don't read the boards for one day and look what I miss! that will teach me from leaving a computer - ever! I am not "in the business", nor do I know anyone in the business, nor do I care to ever be IN the business. However, I am a very, very, very devoted fan to all of theater - the fluff, the big names, the seriousness of what you guys call "true theater". All of it. I love everything about it. I would rather know things from someone who truly DOES know - not from those who post anonymously. It takes awhile before a new person like me can tell if that person REALLY knows something or is just spewing to see his name in print. People on this board are soo judgmental and downright mean sometimes, but then I realize that it full of creative types and with creativity comes the emotions. Please, please, please keep posting. As you can see from my icon, Hairspray is my current obession. Even if it wasn't, my admiration that you take time from your day to put the truth and humor onto these boards, is immeasurable.
respectfully submitted

I was under the weather yesterday and only signed on for a few seconds, truth be told I didn't read the off-topic board in earnest and was out of the "BWW" loop, upon waking this morning and getting up to speed on everything I felt kind of numb and more than a little "enraged" at the fairly one-sided missive that I had just read, it was more than a tad, um, bitter,I was trying to prepare a response and then I read Marc's post and it pretty much described how I felt.
This website has been a gift, a true oasis, where like minded, passionate and creative people can "hang out" and discuss, dismay and inspire on a daily if not minute by minute basis..now I don't read all the posts, and some threads I stay away from on purpose, and guess what? I STILL LIVE!
If a thought or thread is a negative for ya, don't click it, I mean I would imagine 94% of the readers here, view Right Said Rick as a horror, I think he's grand and funny as all heck..
The greatest bonus in joining this internet community has been the people I've been lucky enough to get to meet and know here, from the passions of Rob and Craig in creating Broadwayworld, to the creative hopes and dreams and talent of robbiej and jrb, to the controversial essays of voiceanth, the knowledge of Master LcZ and Namo, the mystery of Phantom2 and the untold desires of the off-topic board itself, what a thrill and honor it is to call them FRIENDS!
Knowing that Marc Shaiman logged in and became part of the fun was a dream come true, here was a gifted and inspired part of musical entertainment history, and he became "one of us", even better, his goal of expressing postitive ideas came true in both action and deeds, then to find out he was such an honest and supportive and hilarious gentleman, well, that was AMAZING!
Friendship is a funny thing, when it happens for real it's effortless, that's how I feel about the pure joy I get from this board and from all of you, the fact I have shared a thought, a tear and most of all many laughs with my BWW family is something I thank the heavens for every day.
This is one "ass kissin' toady" who will wear his BWW name tag proudly and with honor.
I love you all.

Okay...so Anne Murray was expendable.
But why, oh why, when Canada retaliated did they have to take out the Baldwin brothers!?

Eddie,
I am sorry I was unable to post your PM's to me, but children are watching and might be frightened by your stories...as a matter of fact, so would most adults...not to mention certain fish and household pets
Maybe we can pitch them to Showtime..or Robin Byrd?
Once again thanks for not only this thread and your thoughts expressed in it, but for all your inspiration.
And wait until you get my NEXT PM!

Love the Steve Covey quote. He is one of my favorite motivational writers/speakers.
Like you...I stepped away from the board for a moment and BOOM!
I enjoy learning about the world of theater and usually enjoy most of what is shared. I'll never be talented enough to be on stage but I enjoy living vicariously. I'm an "anonymous" poster/lurker being female, but I am glad to be on the fringe of this daffy, energetic, and thought-provoking group.
And, Eddie, I hope you are feeling better today. (RightSaidRick would gladly make a "housecall", wouldn't he?)
And, because this is Marc's thread, better mention him: Some friends and I are talking about seeing Hairspray in Toronto--if we can brave the customs booths on the Lewiston-Queenston and the QEW.

Marc:
Keep on posting, whether its about your animals or your work.
You are extremely knowledgeable and have a wicked sense of humor.
If you are blaming Canada or making people leave Hairspray with smiles on their faces, your talent is appreciated.
You make people laugh and smile. Looking forward to reading more from you, and oh yes, Golden Retreivers RULE!!
Thanks :)
A Canadian Marc
Shows you where my brain is.....I got to the part about the pets and went ohhhhhhhhh!!!!! I have a major over-weaning obsession with my two dogs.....
I'm off to scour the boards to find out about your pets! :
who knew that you, Marc Shaiman, were involved with "Jackie's Back"? all I can say is "Yield! Yield! Yield!"
don't stop posting!!!
oh my GOD I love Jackie's Back.."bring your momma her cough medicine, baby, and make it a double, Antandra..."
I LOVE IT!
"..if we eliminate everyone who has a huge need for attention, then show business will consist of just my accountant and one usher at a community theatre in Tulsa!"
It's lines like this that make me proud to lick Marc's comedic boots! I mean c'mon gang, it's a classic!
Maybe Marc's accountant dreams of being a PRODUCER with a hit show on Broadway...
you have NO idea!! My actual business manager/accountant is Leo Bloom come to life
Mr. Shaiman -
Not being in the theatre, but loving it, I am always glad to read your posts. I would use my own name, but no one would know (or most likely care) who I was. And I agree - if you don't think the thread is your cup of tea - skip it. I don't read the "Is Kristin/Idina/Donna in our out" - I don't have tickets for that night, so I don't bother clicking on the thread.
And your dog is ALMOST as cute as my Lilly!
Respectfully yours,
Jim McFarland
But come on don't we all want to be a producer with a huge hit on our hands?

I'm with...well, everyone on this thread, pretty much. Keep posting, Mr. Shaiman. Your humor and insight are always appreciated.
-Plum, who is far too insignificant for a real name
OK, HOLD ON THERE RIGHT NOW!!!
I have to address this last post and many others, along with the AOL accusations of a certain cloaked poster from this board. It pains me to hear you make this misbegotten deduction that I or anyone thinks the concept of using your real name in here is in ANY way about status!
IT ISN'T!
I use my name because to do otherwise and talk about HAIRSPRAY would be creepy...and I did it once or twice under an alias and felt like a fool.
I think when people write vicious things about other people, they should have the balls to sign their own name to the post...like John Simon in New York Magazine!!
otherwise, it is just an option that some people who aren't afraid of Internet stalkers should think about. It's very freeing.
Just the mere fact that a lowlife nobody like Eddie Varley uses his own name should be proof enough it is NOT about "who you are" but just about who you are!
get it? got it? GOOD!

As Marc's assistant, I'm obligated to post... so his threads stay near the top of the list.
He also makes me rake the sand on the entire beach before he steps onto it.
xoxo
Revo,
You are sadly mistaken. I have it on excellent authority that you are raking the sand for WOO and not Marc.
hey, and as I'm waking up. can I also point out that the responses to this thread seem to show that people think I was thinking of stopping my posting cause of those few nutcases...
HA!!!!!
if anything, their posts make we just wanna write in more, so that both people with lovely stories to tell about theatre and people who can be sarcastic without being demeaning can co-exist!
I got the most beautiful Email yesterday from a BWW poster about a dance class she took that used "YOU CAN'T STOP THE BEAT". I encouraged her to write it on the board, but unfortunately, I think she's afraid of how she will be persecuted...that's a shame, it was such a wonderful tale I sent it to all my collaborators
ok, I'm blabering...
