Dear Lord, has reading comprehension totally gone out the window? And I'm not talking about those for whom English is not their first language. The barbs and comments seem to be directed at those tripping and fawning over one another to post (in an attempt to suck up) to Marc Shaiman. And I don't believe any comments were directed to Eddie, who you can't help but to love, or administrators of this board. Some post are a natural extension of previous relationships.
I never read anything at any time where anyone indicated a desire for any other member to cease posting...anything!
But, Marc, not to burst anyone's bubble, 'cause God knows I'm nothing but a positive person, but I've had the occasion to open another very hot thread last night and read what papa wrote. He referenced a Tony winning composer...just a composer...not a composer/lyricist. Certainly such an omission wouldn't have gone unnoticed. Certainly he would have never failed to acknowledge ALL your accomplishments. (See guys, this is how one subtly sucks up.) Perhaps he meant someone else.

"Just the mere fact that a lowlife nobody like Eddie Varley uses his own name should be proof enough it is NOT about "who you are" but just about who you are!"
See, it's another comic gold star post! It's one of the reasons I love..uh, hey WAIT A MINUTE!
Ah, just kiddin', it's AMAZING!
boy do I hate that term "suck up"
I also would love to banish posts that feature the overused "shill" and refer to something called "stunt casting"
just for a second, replace "suck up" with sincere complimetns that are greatly appreciated
replce "shill" with enthusiastic poster who loves a show
"stunt casting" should be replaced with "do you really think that the directors and writers and producers of a show risk the extra money in salary and integrity of the show just to cast someone who hasn't auditioned just like everyone else and proven (as much as an audition can prove!) that they can play the part well?"

But "suck-up" is such a versatile word.
It can be used as a noun, verb or adjective.

Would a glossary of terms help?
I have gotten blasted for using improper terminology even after I explained I was a neophyte.
And, I enjoy witty reparte' (danged accent mark) whether it be renowned showfolk or folks "in the know" or the rest of the world. I don't consider it vying for attention. I like the verbal ping-pong of wit.

The weirdest thing about "above board" posting is that you get a much better table at Angus McIndoe! I kid you not.

JUST when I was getting comfortable sitting next to Brad Oscar!
Next thing ya know you'll have me banned from the Unicorn!
whoever makes fun of someone writing into an author, composer or lyricist to relate this kind of story will rot in hell, that's all I'm saying! Updated On: 7/8/04 at 01:22 PM

Broadwaystar2b,
Thank you! What a moving story. You express yourself well.
Have you thought about submitting it for publication? I'm sure there are magazines aimed at teens and/or theatre which would love to see it. I'm dead serious. Reading about how theatre is a way to teach confidence and commraderie would be particularly appropos during these rather troubled times for youth and adults.
Everyone has their "fat" moments throughout life...believe me I know that all too well. But, knowing you aren't alone can be such comfort and even inspiration.

Great story. Printing it as we speak.
well, after letting myself go this year, and then being in bed the last 2 weeks with only Entenmanns as my comfort, I just walked by the mirror and had a truly 'fat' moment Updated On: 7/8/04 at 03:22 PM

That's okay Marc.. you are big, blonde-ISH, and beautiful!
Marc, I THOUGHT i was having a skinny week, I mean 7 months of religious gym activity...one look in the Express dressing room mirror....I was close to tears. The lighting is just mean I swear.
bwaystar2b...I almost went to that class but I had to go to a college thing...w/ my portfolio...I don't really remember it but I'm sure it sucked a lot (especially in comparison to your experience). Which categories did your troupe perform in?
"Say what you will but this thread.."ROCKS", and so does Idina!"
Eddie, don't you mean Indina?
Who is Idina? Is that the flying hussy?
ok, to show my complete CONROL FREAKNESS and to test my demi-godness here, what say we all go into our posts and change the Subject Heading from this odd COMEDY GEMS TO FILL THE SOUL that started a few pages back...
ya just hit Edit Message, then replace the Subject to whatever you feel is right
ok...starting....NOW!
GO!!

Marc,
as an aspiring Lyricist I think it is a amzing that a person who has acheived such proffesional stature as yourself is making youself available as a pontential resource to others. I am hoping in the future to use ths resource if I have any tough questions and I want to let you know how thankful it is to have that.
Thanks,
Akiva
