I almost wish there was a public attendance of performers. "Almost" being the key word; I know how much that would be abused as well. But the way some posters (who I could name, but I'm too nice a person) rant about actors' absences, you'd think they were routinely missing 3 shows a week, when in reality they've missed maybe 1 show in the past 3 months.
Also, because I saw someone on a plane to DC the other day that I SWEAR looked exactly like one actor. So if he was absent from the Wednesday shows, that would be helpful in determining if it was actually him, or if high-altitude was just getting to my head.

I think generally more often than not, the understudies are very good. I think they work best when they're allowed to do their own thing. It's a pain in the butt when the producers/directors/stage managers put pressure on you to recreate a star's performance. NOTHING is more frustrating as an actor.

Very true about the value of understudies. To use an example, as you can see from my sig, I go to DRS to see Norbert. If he is out and his understudy is on, a few months ago, I probably would go see something else. This alas is an example of the bias that many dedicated theater goers share about their favorite actors but I honestly feel it is something we all get over eventually. Though the tireless work of another board member, I am actually going to go to a show sometime when Norbert is scheduled to be out and give his US Joe Cassidy a chance. Understudies are often wonderful, undiscovered gems that can really lighten up a show (especially if you have seen it a few times). But if people are so focused on seeing a specific actor (unless he or she is top billing), they may find themselves being overly critical and enjoying the show less. And worse, blaming the actor or actress who was out for their experience. Knowing about the horrific journey it takes to 'make it' on Broadway, I give people an endless slack of rope. They are truly incredibly talented people who followed their dreams. To disregard them for missing a show here or there is just wrong. But this is America....
BTW Andrew...I am going to take a guess at your identity. Are you currently on Broadway or have you been in any revivals in the last few years on Broadway? Does you name begin with a D or S?

I don't think Andrew will answer that lol. But it's interesting you say that understudies brighten up a show that you've seen a couple times before. That's DEF. true of actors IN a show. It keeps every actor on their toes because of this little difference. It's a great diversion in a long run.

heh if I were you I would anyway. Of course you'll hear "such and such is a HUGE Bitch". There is something to be said about anonimity (other than "I can't spell it").

yea i suggest you dont reveal who you are, just for safety purposes and for others not to hound you, though its probably killing most to know who you are

we've already had a Are you Donna Murphy or Sara Ramirez comment. Who cares is what I say. I think everyone will sleep ok without knowing.
very well said Jazzysuite82, I personally dont mind who you are :)
Hehe neither do I. Anymonousity (sp?) is very golden sometimes. Always fun to try though because I love a little challenge. One last stab before I quit but I think that Andrew clue is a helpful one. I will just venture that you like to work for Tony K and not just for Change? ^^

definately NOT donna murphy...and i HOPE and pray to God that Sara does not know this board exists...

LOL I get the impression that Tonya wouldn't be on here. Besides, she's a workhorse man. She hardly EVER missed performances of Caroline, so andrew couldn't have gotten flack for calling out sick if she were Tonya Pinkins.

i wasn't and am not one of the "greats"...if i told you my name you'd probably all be like..WHO????!!!
i bet people would be like "ooooooooooh" if you did tell us, i believe at least 5 people would know who you are
Well, I didnt mean Tonya but did you happen to read "Making it on Broadway"? Your story Andrew sounds similiar to one of the actresses who submitted stories for it. Oh and I hope everything goes well with your new agent. Its always nice to see a Broadway star come back!
