i read something a while ago on a site about disney's upcoming animated films and i remember aida being one of them with the obc in talks for doing the voices
they had other things like brother bear and home on the range which have been released
anybody know what site this was or if they're really thinking about doing this?

Posted: 8/29/04 at 2:22pmI heard that too. They did want to make it into an animated film. They wanted to make the story as simple as they could though for children, so I heard they'd cut 30 min. from the stage show book. Also they might cut a few songs. Idk when they're planning on doing this though

There is a version of aida as an animated musical movie... BUT it's not the elton john version.
It's an italian movie with songs by the genious Ennio Morricone and it's called AIDA DEGLI ABIERI

Adamized...
I think that site you read was older. I think the original plan was to do Aida as an animated film, but then when Lion King became such a sensation on Broadway, they geared it towards the stage. I for one would love to see it done as a traditionally animated movie. I think the epic nature of it would translate beautifully to the medium. Unfortuneately Disney, Dreamworks and WB have all pretty much gotten rid of their traditional animation departments for feature films. So until some animators start up their own studios the medium is fairly dead, as far as big screen stuff goes. So sad.

Posted: 8/29/04 at 2:48pmI remember when the New York reviews came out for AIDA (and they were mostly negative, but all lavished huge praise on Heather Headley), one critic pointed out that the musical would have made a much better animated movie than a stage show. I think I could see where she was coming from, but it definitely wouldn't be a Disney movie - more in line with "The Last Unicorn" or something, a darker kind of cartoon.

Posted: 8/29/04 at 3:17pmAlright, I guess it would make a decent animated movie... the storyline and all would definitely work. I'd just hate to see it become just another "Disney cartoon."

Well, it depends on if you mean 'Disney toon' like THE LITTLE MERMAID, ALADDIN, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST or THE LION KING.
That would be an honour.
But you don't want to turn into a 'Disney toon' like BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 2: AN ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS or THE LITTLE MERMAID 2: RETURN TO THE SEA. (I think those are the titles)
Damn you Michael Eisner.

Posted: 8/29/04 at 3:24pmThat's what I'm saying. I think the era of the "honorable" Disney cartoon is over - the last REALLY good ones were years ago. I don't know... I just think it'd be an injustice to something so great.

Posted: 8/29/04 at 8:05pmI agree with luvtheEmcee, they are going to ruin it if they make it into a cartoon. I love the show just the way it is, and I can't see them capturing it in an animated version. Mock my words, you aren't going to like it. It's like turning your favorite novel into a movie, it just doesn't do it justice. I think they would have a better chance doing a lIVE version over animated.

Posted: 8/29/04 at 8:46pmI think that the subject matter is a little bit too extreme and a bit too realistic for an animation. The whole forbidden love theme, and how they're gonna be buried together in the end isn't really fit for children. I would absolutely LOVE for it to be turned into a live action film...with the right people working on the film, it could turn out wonderfully.

Posted: 8/29/04 at 11:18pmFor some reason I cannot see it as a live action movie. Aida seems like the perfect story for a Disney cartoon, and I could see it become really popular with the kiddies. I'll elaborate later, once I collect my thoughts...
