joeyjoe and I saw Caroline or Change last night and I kept thinking what a wonderful Dorothy Anika would make. She has an amazing range and can certainly play a teenager with ease, no matter what people want to guess her real age to be. I vote for her as the new Dot in The Wiz.
PS = Caroline or Change is one of the best things I've ever seen, possums...don't miss it.

A website had something about this...
YOU WON A TONY!...NOW WHAT?
Best Featured Actress in a Musical
Anika Noni Rose, Caroline, or Change
Rose is the veteran of numerous readings and workshops, having recently starred in the high-profile workshop of The Color Purple. That pre-Broadway musical is set to premiere in Atlanta this fall, but only time will tell if Rose will appear in it. At one point the young star was set to play Dorothy in the proposed ABC remake of The Wiz, so we're thinking she'd be perfect for the upcoming Broadway revival of the show. A website can dream, no?

Posted: 7/16/04 at 7:06pmThere are plenty of very beautiful and talented African American girls that are right for the role of Dorothy, that *are* the appropriate age. Let's not do *this* again. Also, the ABC movie that fell through, was a long time ago. Around the time that Rose was in Footloose (somehow, this fact keeps getting overlooked as if to say Caroline was some sort of debut). There were many musical theater favorites being considered for various roles in the film, such as Sherie Scott, current board obsession Idina Menzel,Marcy Harriel,Lillias White, Orfeh, B.J. Crosby, Billy Porter, etc... I wouldn't put any of *them* in a Broadway revival either. Updated On: 7/16/04 at 07:06 PM

very well stated Al.
I too get frustrated when people act like Anika is an overnight senation that just came from nowhere. She was one of the highlights of the Broadway production of Footloose -- she was the second 'Rusty'.
