Huge fan who would love to make a career out of it....but knows he doesn't have the talent...so works in the background when he can. :)
Huge fan and HS musical theatre student. Our school has a program where you can kind of "major" in a performing arts discipline (dance, theatre, musical theatre, tech theatre, vocal music, and instrumental music) so I'm doing it for MT. To whoever said they're a sophomore but already thinking about college: I'm totally with you.

Wannabe actor, definite singer, and huge fan. The only thing I know I can actually do is sing. My friend says I can act, but the only acting I do is slapstick, cuz I like to make fun of myself. But I'm a huge fan of lots of things, especially RENT. I love it more than most things. I know, it's bad, but it's true.

Blanche dearest, you're not old enough to be a semi-retired anything. You're semi- a lot of things, but retired is not one of them.

When you've been dancing for 18+ years and are then told you CANT anymore, yes, you can be young and semi-retired.

I'm an over-the-hill failed actress.
I am an actor/musical theatre kid. I like doing both
I'm a Freshman in highschool (i know i know really young!!) but have been involved in piano for 6 years and voice for 2 years.

Any of you experienced Musical theater majors have any advice on what i should do before I audition for colleges (later in highschool years of course) or have anything you want to say about what I'm getting myself into please do:).

I'm new to this board too, and just a fan! But I love to sing and have a pretty descent voice, not sure on my acting skills, but I can be pretty dramatic at times. I'm not even into that many shows, but I get obsessed with the ones I do see. Basically, Adam Pascal led me to loving Broadway. All the shows seem great, but it's the stories of Rent and Aida that are just soo beautiful and captivating.
And don't worry RumTumTugger, I'm a Sophomore in high school! :)

But I do love the theatre - and I have been going to see shows on Broadway and at the West End since way back. Too bad I live halfway across the world and can't get to see as much as I would like to.

Wishing all those in the theatre industry ( or hoping to be) the best of luck in your chosen careers!

I am an actor/dancer/singer/director/writer/stagehand. Nothing professional, but I consider my acting my career while school and my job are just daily activities.
Still in high school but what I hope to do in the future is to graduate LACHSA, major in theatrical arts at NYU and audition for plays/musicals in New York. In the longrun, yes my ultimate goal is to be a singer/actress on stage (preferably broadway but as most know tahts easier said then done.) Who knows if thats how it will turn out in the end but I have always loved acting and singing and I'm almost positive that that is how I want to spend my adult life.

It's good that you're looking into schools right now - especially since you're a sophomore. NYC has its share of good schools, but I'd recommend Carnegie Mellon, Boston Conservatory, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and U of Michigan. All fine programs, tough to enter, but you'll get a BFA and be EMPLOYABLE because those schools care about you after you leave, so they are well-connected to NYC theater and LA for everything on the left coast. Good Luck!
no major work as of yet but i'm attending the professional performing arts school in NYC for high school and i've been going on a lot of auditions and callbacks recently and have booked some little **** here and there... woot woot.
