---Of course, it's not for everyone. I'd say if you're more into the classic Broadway showtunes, you won't enjoy this too much because it's a lot more pop-ish. And not everyone appreciates crude humor. *shrug* ---

i appreciate some crude humor and i am totaly into 'modern' musicals... i just dont think that the crude humor should be repeated like 30 times in a song... like the lyrics are umm interesting to say the least... i just dont need to hear that the internet is for porn over and over and over again, it was funny the first time they said it, but now that it has been permanently engraved in my brain, its not so funny anymore... does that make any sense?

The whole point of that song is the contrast between Kate's squeamishness and the utter shamelessness of the guys. I guess you're on Kate's side on that one. :)

The thing about Q that won me over is the way it balences raunchy humor and really heartfelt emotions. The relationship between Princeton and Kate is really sweet and well-written.

Plum-i was just using the internet is for porn as an example... the same goes for the other songs i listened to... however i did go back and listen to 'theres a fine fine line' like someone suggested and found it tolerable to say the least... i wont return it unless i listen to all the songs and look at some pictures first, im just sort of slowing breaking myself in... i cant bring myself to listen to more than a few songs at a time at the moment but im working on it Updated On: 8/11/04 at 08:10 PM

The OBCR is humorus (sp?) but a good deal of the partially serious story is in the dialogue. Go see the show.

I have to add my two cents here..

I went to NYC for the first time in February 2004. I was able to see four shows-- Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Producers (with Matthew B. and Nathan L.) and Avenue Q. Although The Producers was funny, Chicago was good, Phantom of the Opera not all I expected, Avenue Q turned me on to Broadway... As a matter of fact, I saw it again when I came back to the city two weeks ago. I LOVE THE SHOW! I understand that its merits have been debated, but I listen to the OBCR, or at least part of it, on a daily basis... it's that catchy... However, I've also added the bare sampler CD to my rotation too, because I really like it (but that's another thread... which happens to be quite lengthy). As I saw mentioned in another thread, it has been asserted that Broadway needs to change with the times if it is going to survive. I think that Avenue Q is a new, fresh show that, while it may not necessarily be in a revival 20 years from now, can (and in my opinion, should..) be appreciated for being simple, but very entertaining. I agree with those who say that the recording makes more sense after you see the show, but I feel it stands very well on its own. I'll stop rambling, but, I think you get the picture--- I LOVE IT!

ok i understand where everyone is coming from and stuff, but i have to say that i agree with Nodaybuttoday2. i bought the obcr before i saw the show and i was willing to give it a chance. I listened to the entire cd and i wasn't impressed at all. the subject matter and the titles of many of the songs turned me off. i still hadn't given up hope though. i went with my mom and one of my friends a few days ago to see the show and we won the lotto seats. i thought that the cast was wonderful. they performed perfectly. they are all very talented. however, i still wasn't impressed by the end of the show. i thought that it wasn't really worth the money i spent. the cast was incredibly kind though.

I'm a little bit late to this, but I bought the CD about a month or so before I actually went to the show, and was a bit underwhelmed. I appreciated it a lot more after seeing the show, when I could put it all into context.
