The film-version hasn't been made yet, so there isn't a soundtrack recording available.

OHHH....you mean the CAST RECORDINGS. That's a whole different issue.

You mentioned SOUNDTRACK recording, which is for films. Shows/plays/musicals have CAST RECORDINGS. Films have SOUNDTRACK RECORDINGS.

My bad. Sorry. re: best les miz soundtrack...if doing school edition

when you license Les Miz school edition MTI includes in the package, for your director, a studio cast recording with young singers performing the school edition. you might want to just ask for a copy of that, although it's pretty bad, but it will have everything you need to learn and nothing you don't.

You aren't going to find a CAST RECORDING that includes the school edition cuts.

Your best best is not to listen to a CAST RECORDING at all because you'll likely end up trying to emulate those performers, whether you mean to or not.

I'm sure Pati B will chime in on this.

I also had this problem. Im getting ready to perform the school edition in February. I first got the Original Broadway Cast Recording, but then with my score for the show the directors gave me the school edition cd from MTI. I would get the Original B-Way but also, if you can, get the school edition cd because there is a lot of different things on that. For example, the Thenardiers split stuff in Master of the House, and the first verse of Stars is cut out. They also tried to take some of the vulgar out of the show.

Eww... The student edition and the original broadway cast... two of the worst possible recordings of Les Miz available.

I first reccommend the 10th Anniversary Recording. The performers are incredibly talented, and its almost the entire show. After that, I reccommend the complete symphonic recording, although Kaho is possibly the worst Eponine they could ahve possibly chosen. WOOOHOOO, they broke the racial barrier, but, in the process, they ruined one of the most memorable, heartwrenching characters in musical theatre...

They didn't really break a racial barrier. She didn't exactly come from a diverse cast herself... re: best les miz soundtrack...if doing school edition Plus, when listening, you don't notice ethnicity, just accent (and it's not even a specific accent at that -- thanks, Warlow, for making it a total mix!).
