this is not favorite show, these are the songs you can enjoy w/o seeing the show.
try and stay away from answers like:
wicked.
phantom
rent
les miserables
because, contrary to your belief system, we've heard 2345793467 other times.
one of my favorites right now is jekyll and hyde.

I ahve to agree with you on that one. Although the rest of the cast (Denis O'Hare, Janine LaManna, and Kyra DaCosta specifically) is great.

DO NOT ANSWER:

Well contrary to your belief system, someone may actually enjoy songs from these musicals without seeing the show. And you asked about everyone's "very Broadway CDs." I'm assuming you meant "favorite," then of course this is an opinion question. So I still don't understand why we can't mention those.

Wedding Singer, absolutely :) Its SO freaking fun, even if you've never seen the show before or anything!
And def a chorus line- I highly enjoy it, and I knew nothing about it till I got the revival recording. All I'm going on is the pics and the summary in the digital booklet (I got it off itunes)
And Last 5 Years. omg. Seriously, THE most gorgeous soundtrach ever. You dont even have to get the story at ALL and its STILL an amazing listen. Course.. it helps significantly if you know a LITTLE about the story, but its not really necassery for the enjoyment of the cd
aaaand *cough*rentwickedlesmisphantom*cough* :) (sorry, I had to do it lol)

I'm currently thoroughly enjoying The Wedding Singer and Hairspray. They are both very fun and as I spend ALOT of time driving I like to listen to upbeat stuff. I have to admit that I'm pretty familiar with the Hairspray story though.

yes, but does that mean we cant love listening to them?
just because they're really popular doesn't mean they're not great or worthy of mentioning. Sometimes I think people get a little too carried away with the whole notion of "overrated" just because somethings slightly overrated that does not make it bad- and in the case of all 4 of those shows, there's a REASON they're a little over rated- its because they're FANTASTIC shows. So should we not be able to mention them or state our love for them just because it's not "cool" to like "overrated" shows? just my two cents
re: best recordings to listen to#20
Posted: 10/17/06 at 9:15pmI've been listening to Ragtime a lot lately and I LOVE it. I also recommend The Last Five Years, Dreamgirls and Hair (actor's fund benefit recording). All three have great music and great performers!

i'm not denying that they are good shows.
infact i could sing all four of them by memory.
but what i'm saying is, i wanted people to introduce new stuff that not everyone has heard.
.
but i really did not mean to personally offend anyone?
