Does anyone know of a good karaoke place in NYC that features predominantly a showtune catalog? Lucky Cheng's is fun, but I think I need to try a new place.
Keep on singing everyone!
They're called "piano bars" in NYC...

Spotlight Live is a GREAT karaoke venue -- they have a stage and backup dancers -- and they have stuff from Hairspray... but that's about it on the showtunes.

If you go to Karaoke 17 you can rent a room for $6 per person per hour and they have a good selection of showtunes. There are other places that use the same catalogue and are more bar oriented. One that is great is XES Lounge on 24th between 6th and 7th. They have gay karaoke hosted by fabulous drag queens on Wednesdays and Sundays after 10pm. www.xesnyc.com.
Mr. Biggs on 9th ave. has a GINORMOUS selection/catalog for their karaoke "piano" bar.
bkonbroadway, I just wanted to say that after seeing your post I went to Karaoke 17. It was a blast! It is Japanese style, which means you get your own room, and they had tons of show tunes. Thanks for the recommendation!
Sing Sing in the East Village has the same setup with private rooms and their showtune collection is ENORMOUS. It can get really crowded there at nights but the wait for one of the rooms is well worth it.
