re: Anyone else disappointed in choice of DAMN YANKEES for Encores? Apr 7 2008, 09:20:16 PM
Isn't Orfeh a tad old for Evita at this point. No. She has too much of a break in her voice to make Eva bearable. Excuse me? You must be thinking of the wrong person.

allofmylife, Orfeh was actually one half of the r&b/dance group Or-N-More, not in a rock band... The second youtube link in the first post is one of their music videos. Here's one for their hit song, "Everyotherday" -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=IoFnu1MtLyU

If y'all haven't already, you should buy tickets to her solo show at Feinstein's -- it's a long way off still (June 2nd), but it's already selling really fast, from what I've heard! http://www.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=241473 And add me to the looong list of people who think she'd be RIDIC FIERCE in Evita.

re: Legally Blonde understudies Nov 10 2007, 03:29:56 AM
I'm not a huge follower of understudies, but with the crazy show they were having that night, it kind of added to the flavor. Noah did great with all the unexpectedness.

re: Are musicals expensive for you? Nov 10 2007, 03:26:46 AM
I can only recall paying full price for a ticket once in my life, and that was to see Andy Karl go on as Emmett in LB for the first time. In general, I thank the powers that be for rush & lotto.

re: broadway karaoke? in NYC Nov 10 2007, 03:23:05 AM
Spotlight Live is a GREAT karaoke venue -- they have a stage and backup dancers -- and they have stuff from Hairspray... but that's about it on the showtunes.

re: [title of show] going to Broadway? Nov 10 2007, 03:17:58 AM
I love this show? But I think it's much better suited for off-broadway.

Is Haven definitely covering Elle? I'm too lazy to go get my playbill...

Andy Karl as Callahan was the most inspired performance by an understudy yet. Just my 3 cents. Agreed, 100%. And his Emmett is a very close second.

re: LBB Replacement Aug 21 2007, 01:01:02 AM
I think Annaleigh is great in her track, but I'd like to see her go on as Elle before I think about throwing my hat into that ring... I've heard Becky Gulsvig was amazing in the part. Ultimately I think I'm gonna have to go with Bea. :) Seriously, though, isn't it a little early to be thinking about all of this? Slightly off topic, I love how a speculative post in one thread becomes a rumor in another. Can I start one?

TV star to star in LB? Aug 20 2007, 01:41:41 AM
Looks like Kristen Bell will be playing Elle after all! http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117970491.html?categoryid=14&cs=1 LOL.

Ashley Tisdale is a possibility. Funny you should mention that, I was just thinking about that too... she certainly would not be my first choice either, but the HSM demographic pretty well matches that of LB...

re: Legally in Trouble? Aug 16 2007, 03:10:48 AM
I didn't say your opinion was wrong, AnnaK, but you're saying that the show being "not good" and "miscast" are the reasons that it fails to appeal to the general public. I said it's not good enough to appeal to the general non-theatre-loving public. All I was saying is that those are kind of empty terms on which to try to make a point. They're perfectly valid as personal opinions, but not particularly so as a persuasive argument.

re: Legally in Trouble? Aug 16 2007, 01:15:00 AM
AnnaK and WickedBoy2, everyone has their own taste... every time I've been at Blonde, I've heard the 298347923487 person line for the ladies room buzzing about how cute the show is, how funny so-and-so is, etc. If you're a huge fan of the movie, there's a lot different about the musical and the same way Harry Potter fans take issue with the movies, I would expect you to take issue with the musical. I liked the movie too, but I personally enjoy the changes they've made for the stage version. As f

I'd like to preface this comment with how much I personally love Kristin Bell and I think she'd be a fantastic choice for the part when LBB leaves. However... if you're doing it as a "stunt cast" and the point of stunt casting is to sell tickets to people who wouldn't have otherwise bought them... how effective would she be in that particular aspect? If they're looking for a real stunt cast, I'd imagine it would be someone else... but hey, what do I know. :p

re: Clay Aiken attends 'IDOL: The Musical' Jul 29 2007, 03:20:44 AM
I find it seriously creepy the Clay Aiken fans believe themselves to be on a first name basis with his "posse" members. It's creepy that they watched him more than the show itself. Oh kids... this is seriously just scratching the surface of how creepy a lot of the "claymates" are... y'all have no idea. Unless you have seen the Clambulance and the Pink Claydies for yourself, you will not understand the level of dysfunction...

re: ANDY KARL ON AS EMMETT IN LB TONIGHT! Jul 26 2007, 11:23:21 PM
Just adding my voice to the chorus -- Andy was fabulous. If you ever have the opportunity to see him in this part, take it. Without question. The part of his performance that stuck out the most for me, as others have already mentioned, is that from the moment he asks Warner who Elle is, you can tell he's interested in her... which has sadly always been my issue with Christian Borle.
