Westway Diner is probably the most comparable in price and atmosphere -- but there will never be another Cafe Edison!

I agree Westway is the closest. Not been their nearly as long and a smidge outside the TD but I also recommend Ben's Deli on 38th just west of 7th. Also though it is only a branch of its Brooklyn cousin Juniors is decent  and better than most tourist driven places.

I'll never get over Kodama closing.

"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife

Have not eaten at Westway but totally agree on Junior's and Ben's. I've eaten at the Junior's in Brooklyn and this one is just as good, big portions, fast and friendly service and reasonable prices. And of course the cheesecake is among the city's best. Ben's is hardly iconic but if you're in the mood for deli, it's very solid and reasonably priced as well as being fully kosher rather than kosher style as most of the others are.. Both are must do's any time I'm in the city for theater and an added bonus for those who care about such things, if you participate in any of the major airlines dining mileage programs, both participate so you pick up some frequent flyer miles for your trouble as well.
