cats new cast cd

why  is cats not making a cast cd of this show. I would love one

From what it seems like there is almost zero chance of this happening. I'm not sure why but from what I can tell it just ain't happening.

There's really no need. The original cast album was great and featured a fuller, richer orchestra than this current production. Betty Buckley sort of blows Leona Lewis out of the water (I still enjoy her, though) and the recording has been remastered as well. The original still cuts it if you want a CATS recording...

I remember talking to a noted record producer once... He had taken on the recording of a musical revival of a classic show. He told me he regretted it as he "couldn't bring anything new to the table"...the original cast recording said it all...

I've actually never seen CATS and really don't care to. I've listened to the London and Broadway cast albums and they 're very well produced. Between the two of them, they've sold 1,063,045 copies in The United States alone according to the most recent Soundscan numbers...so I think there are a number of fans out there.

I think that the show is much better when experienced on disc personally. The OBC is a classic cast album and as MichelleCraig says is very well produced with an excellent cast.
