Posted: 12/13/04 at 2:40pmThe movie sucks. And Emmy is dull in it. I am surprised. but heck; It is the Golden Globes. They always mix in some ridiculous nominations.

Posted: 12/13/04 at 2:45pmWhile I would say it is a very dull movie and that the leading girl was particularly boring and forgettable; I wouldn't say it sucked. I guess they did what they could with the material; which in my opinion has always been mediocre ( no mater how succesful). But the casting does not help and Joel Shumacker is not one of my favorite directors.

There were severals performances that were shut out of the Golden Globes.
Best Actor (Drama)
Kevin Bacon, The Woodsman
Jeff Bridges, The Door in the Floor
Tom Cruise, Collateral
Best Actor (Musical/Comedy)
Jude Law, Alfie
Best Actress (Drama)
Julie Delpy, Before Sunset
Laura Dern, We Don't Live Here Anymore
Catalina Sandino Moreno, Maria Full of Grace
Best Actress (Musical/Comedy)
Lindsay Lohan, Mean Girls
Sigourney Weaver, Imaginary Heroes
Laura Linney, P.S.
Jennifer Garner, 13 Going on 30
Overall, I'm hapy with the nods, but these performances should not have been left out.

Posted: 12/13/04 at 3:04pmWhat made your day? That a bad movie musical has been nominated for golden globes ? While other worthy projects have bee noverlooked?
#15re: congrats Phantom of the Opera!
Posted: 12/13/04 at 3:36pmnot that others DIDN'T get nominated, but that this did. Now, I can't say it is an incredible movie, because I haven't seen it yet, but i love the soundtrack, and i love emmy, so THAT made my day

Iris, you get on my nerves. It's just a movie. Geez...you'll always have your perfect recording to listen now.
Now, back to the Golden Globes, award shows have always been messed up. These people aren't broadway oriented. It's a movie. Did you really expect it to be GREAT? No, I didn't either. Joel is a turnip when it comes to directors. There should've been a different director.
But congrats Emmy!

Posted: 12/13/04 at 4:03pmI think that this is a representation of what we will see for the Academy Awards if they even get this many nominations (not including the art nominations). I think POTO has an excellent chance of being completely shut out of the Academy Awards.

Posted: 12/13/04 at 4:15pmi know there have been some screenings of phantom but it hasn't even come out yet...i think alot of people are saying it sucks before they even have seen it just cause they don't like the show or the cast/director of the film. if your going to bring down the film at least see it first.

we'll see... until then, we'll just anxiously await the movie to open and form opinions on our own... i'm with you jwei... so happy for the movie and of course me Emmy :P!
as far as the Golden Globes being a representation, who knows. it's a great indication of what could come, but there can still be surprises. like last year, Cold Mountain had the most Globe noms i believe, but it did pretty bad when the Oscars came about. So we'll see what happens when Oscar noms are announced January 25th!
#21re: congrats Phantom of the Opera!
Posted: 12/13/04 at 4:17pmCold Mountain was absolutely incredible, and i was SO happy for renee at the oscars!...so i have my fingers crossed for phantom, and we'll see what happens!

Posted: 12/13/04 at 4:23pmFirst of all; as she has already stated before : Iris has seen the movie.. while many of you that are so pumped that it got a golden globe have not. I will just like to point out that it those no good for the future of the movie musical for something as mediocre as the Phantom film to get undeserved recognition. People who normally don't see this kind of thing will go see it; hate it, and think twice about seeing a musical again.
#23re: congrats Phantom of the Opera!
Posted: 12/13/04 at 4:26pmFace it if the Golden Globes didn't even give it more than 3 nominations then they don't stand a chance at the Academy Awards. The nomination for Best Picture/Actress was probably just a fluke/filler since they have a Best Musical/Comedy and since Phantom is the only new musical film out they felt obligated to nominate it. The song nomination is just a default.

Posted: 12/13/04 at 4:29pmi say just leave it to personal opinion when it comes out. it has mixed reviews, which means there ARE people who like it. it hasn't opened yet... give it time for people to decide if it's good or not. im not saying it should definitely win the awards it is nominated for because i haven't seen it yet. but it also doesn't mean others or myself cannot be happy to hear the news.
