cut BROADWAY numbers been recorded — Page 2

"It's a Scandal" was always part of OKLAHOMA - it's on the Original Original Broadway cast album from 1943. It was in the latest revival.

"Marking Time" is the name of the song that was cut from PIPPIN and replaced with "Extraordinary." It's a nice little song, but clearly didn't serve the story nearly as well. It was recorded on one of the LOST IN BOSTON CD's and sung by Michael Rupert.

The "Moving" song from WORKING was added to the revised version of the show and replaces a dance number, though "Neat To Be A Newsboy" is cut from the show in the new (and old, if I recall correctly) version.

There are always cast recordings of songwriter revues such as AND THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND and JERRY'S GIRLS that usually include songs cut from shows (like "If You Leave Me Now" from WORLD which was cut from THE HAPPY TIME and is really pretty marvelous.)

There are some cut songs on the end of the newest Follies recording (Paper Mill).

Reviving this thread to say it inspired me to put up all cut songs from musicals on my internet radio - several hours worth. They'll be up all during September and include many of the songs discussed in this thread.

I'm somewhat obsessed with showtunes, especially those that got dropped somewhere along the way. If you know of any other little-known recordings of cut songs, please post them here.

The Broadway recording for Matilda has the cut song Perhaps a Child sung by Sergei, while the stratford recording has an extra verse in Naughty that had been cut before performances.

I have to say that although the bumping of long-dead threads is often cause for complaint around here, I always get a little wistful for how much more civil this board used to be when I read through an old conversation. And I still miss MargoChanning's presence more than would seem possible for someone I never met, whose real name I never knew, and who I barely communicated with.
