Just about every other advertisement was for a drug company. I'm in advertising, and I can tell you that when your primary advertisers are drug companies, they're expecting an older (read: elderly) audience. And that is not the most desirable demographic for any television program.
Yeah, I agree that theater is just not a top interest of most Americans. I know, it is sad. I was wondering why E! never did a red carpet show or fashion police for it, but then I realized the Tonys are too classy for that channel. I mean, they are airing reality shows about celebrity train wreaks. So, I doubt people who take those shows seriously will be watching the Tonys. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it.
DrewBill - You're not kidding! My mother saw the ad for Lyrica and was like, "I need to ask my doctor about getting that!"
As for changing the date, I don't think it's a good idea. Given a choice, the networks would probably move the Tonys to December 31st at 11 pm. On Animal Planet.
Also, the show was on Father's Day this year, so I could not have a party.
Also, the Tonys are way too classy for Bravo or A&E.
