Fun!
LuPone as Mamma Rose
Matt Morrison/ Joe machota as Tarzan
Nathan Lane/ Robin Williams as Edna Turnblad and/or Wilbur Turnblad. Or one as each and playing off of each other.
I'll come up with a longer list later!
Andy Roddick in Naked Boys Singing (I don't care if he can sing or not)

I have no clue. She should have been Rose. Why she wasn't is anyone's guess.

Come on folks...there are obvious reasons Patti LuPone wasn't Rose. I would have loved to see Patti as Rose (although I loved Bernadette) but Patti LuPone won't draw a crowd like Bernadette Peters (you must admit that). Bernadette Peters is almost a household name, Patti LuPone (while the woman is brilliant) is not. Face it folks, Broadway stars mean very little now a days. That's why Marisa Tomei is the next Charity. Bernadette is one of the few remaining Broadway Stars that everyone knows. It sucks but, it's true. Gypsy was done as a revival because Arthur Laurents wanted to see Bernadette in the role, not just for the sake of a revival.

Bernadette Peters is ALMOST a household name. Arthur Laurents wanted to see her in the role? So he's to blame? Would have been cheaper to have her over for dinner and a reading. Patti Lupone managed to draw for Noises Off and has some television profile which Bernadette doesn't seem to have these days. No I would have prefered to have seen Patti, she would be a Rose with balls!

Ask someone on the street who Bernadette Peters is and I bet 70% of the time they will know. Ask someone who Patti Lupone and while the woman is brilliant I bet 30% or less will know who she is. I didn't say she wouldn't make a good Rose. I'm just stating a fact...talent doesn't sell anymore on Broadway. Names do.

Jane Krakowski is a goddess. She can play any role she wants as far as I'm concerned.

In about 10 years, Jane would be a good Tanya in Mamma Mia!

In 10 years Mama Mia better be off Broadway. Jane is much better than "Lets Shove a Bunch of Abba Songs Into a Musical and Form A Script Around It That Makes No Sense."

One would hope that in ten years time Mamma Mia will be but a distant memory.

Anne Hathaway as Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee. She's got the look and the voice (even though Gypsy wasn't known for her singing).

i remeber patti lupone was metioned to play the witch in into the woods, i wonder why that didnt happen? but i think she would make an awsome mamma rose!!! i wonder if she would replace BP, i doubt she would probaly want too re-create the role herself first.
i think john goodman would also make a good edna turnblad along with robin williams and nathan lane and bruce v.

I second Patti for Mama, she would be insane! lol
What I heard bout Patti playing the witch which was YEARS ago, ws that she wanted to play Cinderella instead, not the ugly witch. They told her she'd transform, but she still wanted the engenue.
I wonder how they talked her into doing Fosca from Passion. I don't think Patti's ever played an ugly role. She's too diva, lol

When Patti gets older she needs to play Frau Schneider from Cabaret, imagine her belting "So What?" and tearing thru "What Would You Do?"

I second Anne Hathaway as Louise in Gypsy. She could be amazing!
I'd also love to see Patty Lupone as Dorothy Brock in 42nd street.
I think Laura Benanti would make a great Miss Dorothy in TMM.
I also think she would be AMAZING as Emma Carew in Jekyll and Hyde.
