But can they all sing and dance? You have to be nearly a triple to be in that show.

re: re: re: My Dream Casting

There had been some talk about Bette Midler doing Hello, Dolly! not to long ago, but she is to tour her own show so I guess that is out now.

re: re: re: re: My Dream Casting

Michele Pawk as Dolly Levi or Mame! She would be great in Mame!

re: re: re: dream casting

I second the idea of Michele Pawk being Mama Rose or Dolly Levi!

re: re: re: re: dream casting

Does anyone here actually know Michele? or knows her manager or publicist? I would love to know if she has any plans for another show.

OOO, what about Christine Baranski as Dolly Levi? She actually has a very nice singing voice, and I think she's a good actress.

re: re: re: re: re: re: dream casting

I could actually picture that! She would make a very good Dolly, although if I had to pick btwn her and Michelle Pawk, I think I may go with Michelle.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: dream casting

Si, TheaterBaby :) (why do we think I was so damn happy when she won the Tony? re: re: re: re: re: re: re: dream casting)

She is currently in the new Sondheim Musical BOUNCE in Chicago. She will continue with that at the Kennedy Center in October (I believe; don't quote me on the date)

I don't know what's in the works for her after that though....

Carolee Carmello - Cathy *The Last Five Years*
Christopher Sieber - Jaime *The Last Five Years*

It'd be interesting to see how Lauren Kennedy would tackle "My Strongest Suit" with her unique vocal techniques. I never knew screeching could becoming a wonderful form of belting. I used to hate her voice, but now I'm a convert. Lauren for Amneris.

re: My Dream Casting

Jane Krakowski as Charity?? No way. She looks the part, and can certainly dance it, but her vocals are nowhere near strong enough. She was good in NINE, but only won the Tony because of her entrance and exit. Almost every other Featured Actress candidate (except my beloved Chita) deserved the award over her. (Actually, Kerry Butler from HAIRSPRAY should have been nominated ... and should have won.) This is doubly so if you saw Anita Morris do the role in the original production. She was completely unforgettable. Take a listen to Jane on the GRAND HOTEL or ONCE UPON A MATTRESS CDs if you want to hear how limited she is vocally. There is no doubt that she is a knockout -- and also very appealing onstage -- but Charity has to have it all -- and she doesn't. It will be very interesting to see what Marisa Tomei can do. She is a theatre performer from way back (prior to films) -- so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.

DREAM CASTING:
Now that LITTLE SHOP is being re-cast...
Roger Bart as Seymour (much more appealing than Hunter Foster -- and a stronger singer/actor)
Kristin Chenoweth as Audrey (although Alice Ripley was a fine choice)
Lillias White as the voice of Audrey II
Itty Bitty Geisha? Toyland? Gypsy Pasadoble? Just a few popular favorites...

Albin, what is TWGM? The World Goes Meow?? The World of Gay Men? To Woo GodMothers?

Do you mean La Cage Aux Folles?? Aren't Albin and Georges characters in that musical??

I'm confused!!!!

Meanwhile, regarding the discussion about who is more famous: Bernadette Peters or Patti LuPone ... I think you must take into consideration Patti's years on LIFE GOES ON, which was a huge hit. There's nothing to compare to a television audience to make someone known. I'd say they're about equal, with completely different demographics. As far as talent and acting, though, I have to side with Patti. I do think Bernadette is knocking it out of the park playing Rose -- she's phenomenal if what my friends tell me is true and if that one number from the Tony's can be believed. Nevertheless, BP is known as a singer first. Patti studied at Julliard and does as many straight roles as musicals.

Dream Roles:

1. Patti LuPone as Maria Callas in a musical version of Master Class
2. Bernadette Peters in an adaptation of the Betty Boop cartoons or the life story of Helen Kane (the voice of BB)
3. Norm Lewis in anything. The man's voice is phenomenal
4. Patti LuPone as Mrs. Lovette in SWEENEY TODD
5. Christine Andreas as Fantine in LES MISERABLES or anything where she would get to belt. Another unbelievable voice
6. Judy Kuhn as Dolly Levi -- can you imagine her Don't Rain on My Parade??? WOW!!!

... that's all for now ... great topic!!!
