This year the right actor Eddie Redmayne won. What a transformation for the role! But Bradley Cooper will soon have his time. He has been nominated for 3 consecutive years very soon he will be long overdue for a win! That was Julianne Moore this year 5 noms and finally a win! Unfortunately that's how Oscar works. But this year Eddie truly deserved the win

While I think Redmayne very talented, I was disappointed that Michael Keaton did not win (a tie would have been fine). If BIRDMAN was the best film, was Keaton not the on-screen linchpin, the fulcrum of that best film? He may not have had a visible Horrific Condition That Usually Wins the Award, but his desperate descent was remarkably portrayed. Plus, the movie centered on Broadway theater. I hope Keaton gets another shot at a quality film like BIRDMAN.

back to Redmayne - prior to this film, I only knew him from the Les Miz film. I admired his performance in that but shen I saw Theory, I was wowed! That was some performance. And I came to see how cute he is, too! So glad he took the triple crown this year.

Eddie also has a Tony from the play Red (2010) to go with his Oscar...only an Emmy and Grammy left to complete an EGOT!!! :)

Cary Grant (1969) and Peter O'Toole (2002) eventually got honorary Oscars. Hopefully the others will also get theirs!

I'm so happy he won. Now, it would be great if he would return to Broadway.

"Mostly, I loved the size of these people's emotions. Nobody has emotions this size anymore. Outsized emotions. Operatic emotions. Kushemski and Vanda are like Tristan and Isolde, they're Paolo and Francesca. Nobody's in total thrall like this anymore. Nobody's overcome by passion like this, or goes through this kind of rage." The 2 you mention were honorary and not won.It is too late for the others as they are dead.

Wasn't that what I just said 'honorary'??!? Oscar may not always give a win to multiple noms but they will try to give honorary to make up. Not that is like actually winning in their category but at least there is an attempt on Oscar part to give recognition! They are also human, can't always be perfect

I think what made Eddie Redmayne's performance in TOE so incredible is the scientific way that he went about planning his character's loss of muscle control, and keeping track of which muscles he had already shown as being out of control. (The reason he kept careful track was to avoid accidentally reversing a sign of loss of muscle control that the character had already experienced.)

In terms of learning how to create the contortions and grimaces from which an ALS patient suffers, he had to teach his muscle what to do to look like they COULDN'T do what they were supposed to do.

Between the detailed preparation and the success of that preparation, I think Eddie Redmayne earned that Oscar.

I don't remember how old Eddie Redmayne is, but he looks very young. I agree with the folks who say he was "adorable," which is rarely used for males unless they look young. It was also really sweet to see the way he and his new wife were interacting with each other and with Eddie's co-star.

There is only one positive description of Eddie Redmayne with which I disagree: Some writer or other gushed that he is one of the British hunks. Sorry, but he's too adorable to be a "hunk." Cumberbatch maybe, but not Eddie Redmayne. On the other hand, there are many attributes that lead to a successful acting career and a decent human being besides being a hunk, and I think Eddie's got those.

I was thrilled that he won and I look forward to other film and theater performances of his in the future -- hopefully, including more musicals.

AH-Eddie's about 33. And I agree, he should do more musical work. His Empty Chairs at Empty Tables in Les Miiz was stunning.
